Making coffee at work

The office I work in is not the greatest in regards to things like this. There is no water club, no coffee club, zip nothing and efforts have been made to create something like this for the office but people don't seem interested. So I'm left to solve for myself how in the world am I going to make myself some good coffee at work for just myself.

I also use milk for my coffee and prefer not to use the microwave to warm up my milk at work because most often it is VERY dirty. :( Also I need something that is easy to clean and that it won't break (aka no glass).

What's the best way to make coffee at work for one person?

how about a thermos? if you make it at home and take it with you, you can have it when u want and it will keep it warm aswell :)

Going to second a flask here myself. Best way to get what you want, and then you know exactly what's gotten into it.

If you pick up a good brand it'll stay hot all day.

They make coffee makers for just 1 cup, get that put it in your work area and make yourself a cup when you want.

I've done the thermos thing but it tasted different. I use almond milk and regular milk on my coffee

Green, I've seen mostly 4 cups coffe makers. Can you tell me a specific brand that is not a Keurig? I bought a Keurig thinking I would use that but it was a failure. Coffee did not taste like coffee. I was using my own grounds with a filter and it was so light you could barely call that a cup o joe.

Do you have access to hot water? I used to use a french press to make coffee at work when we did not have a coffee maker.

Aeropress. It's plastic, easy to clean, makes only one cup.

you probably need to put in more grounds. Using your own grounds on the Keurig you need to tweek it a bit until you get the perfect cup. I like to use the 20% off coupon from bed bath and beyond and get "Donut house Brand" it's so yummy.

Or Walmart has some good cheap 4 cuppers like you mentioned I'm sure there are some that are plastic

My brother bought my father a coffee press for xmas a few years back. My father used to just use a car mug to bring his coffee to work so it'll be cool enough to drink when he got into his office.

Tried this thing out and burnt his tongue when he got to the office. It was still good and hot after sitting around for over an hour!

Oh, and you haven't tasted good coffee until you've used a press with freshly ground coffee beans...

Something like this is what you'd want.

Edited to add: If you've never used a coffee press before, here's what you do:

Grind fresh beans and add 1-2 tbsp of grinds to the mug. Pour in hot (not boiling! about 80 degrees C) water into the mug and put the lid on, with the press fully extended. Wait a few minutes (how long depends on how strong you want it - 30 seconds to 2 minutes will do) and push the press down. Enjoy!

If you're adding milk, I believe it would be best to add it after you pour in the water, before you put on the lid.
  • I depends on how geeked out you want to make your coffee. I am really serious about coffee so I grind everything fresh and brew right away. This is the setup I would go with:

You need to get a hot water kettle too.

That said there are cheap pourovers in the grocery store $5, but you will still need to get a kettle. For instance.:

This is great! thank you guys! I'm checking out all your suggestions. Some of these products I hadn't seen while I was googling.

I have a tea maker machine that can also heat up some water for me that's about it. Hot water is not an issue.

Google 1 cup coffee maker and you'll find links to internet sites, ones at JC Penney, Bed Bath and Beyond and others.

Why does no one clean the microwave?

Many folks at my workplace that don't want to belong to the coffee club (which just makes cheap folger's every day) have their own presses or french press things like chivalryder suggests. There are a lot of models out there. I hadn't seen one that would let you take it with you in the car so that is neat, you can also just use the press in the office.

My work has an awesome coffee maker and even a bean grinder. Problem is they buy these cheap beans in bulk. I don't even know if the beans are roasted some times. Ick. I'm a coffee snob and bought a Keurig. That makes great coffee and the clean up is easy.

If you still have the keurig, you should try an ekobrew. It's the only filter I've found that brews strong coffee through the keurig. It does leave some residue, but that doens't bother me.

Love a good french press but never knew they made them directly into a coffee mug! Brilliant!!! I like to bring my french press camping with me too and I second your comment about freshly ground beans...yum!

I'm looking for this mug but at REI I only find this one which doesn't seem to be thermal. http://www.rei.com/media/yy/a4156a12-7a22-4ed5-9ba3-8a420729c5df.jpg
