Simplifying Recipes to Simplify Entering Info

Does anyone else find themselves looking at certain meals and not eating them because it would take too much time to figure out the calories, fat, protein and carbs and enter them into the daily log? I find myself making simpler meals or eating the same thing so I do not have to figure out how to enter it into my log. If it is more than three ingredients I am hesitant to make it. My chili is now ground up fresh tomatoes, meat and maybe a can of beans. Chicken is now breast meat cooked in coconut milk with a little lemon juice. Etc.

I just use the recipe function and cook in bulk where possible.

Take the closest thing and add a little bit more to it to account for any hidden calories

No, but then I don't add every little thing. If it's something really low calorie, like 1 jalapeno, I just leave it out. And I don't add spices for the same reason. But if I want a favorite recipe or a new one looks good, I'm certainly not going to skip it. I'd just stop logging first.
  • I log everything except gum. Most recipes online include nutritional information, including calories, so you shouldn't need to log every ingredient. I have a recipe from KraftCanada.com for Slow-Cooker Chunky Chicken Chili that's fantastic! One cup is 310 calories, and it's in MFP! But, if I have to log every ingredient, simply a recipe, or reduce a portion size to make something work, then that's what I do. You can't diet without sacrifice, right?

This is what I do also, my only thing sometimes is trying to figure up the serving size...
