Needing some motivation today!

Everything is going wrong this morning and I just don't understand why NOTHING can EVER go like I need it to?????? All of this added stress is making it even harder to stick to healthier foods. I seriously just want to sit down and eat an entire half-gallon of ice cream with just a spoon...possibly drowned in chocolate syrup. Lol! Help???

If everything is going wrong, I assume it's all things out of your control? The one thing that is completely under your control is what you eat. Sure, you'll get the instant satisfaction of the good taste of the ice cream but it will mostly likely turn into guilt and make you feel even worse. Take the reigns and turn this day around so you can say "well, all this crap happened today but I stuck to my diet/fitness goals and I feel awesome!"

Can you just put everything on hold for a little while and go for a walk in the fresh air to calm you down?

Life is happening to you. That's all. Stress is just one of several possible responses you may choose. Another choice is to roll your eyes, think, "this too shall pass," and get on with the rest of your day. Or have a darn good laugh at it all. But it is just life happening to you and it sure beats the alternative.

Do you read PostSecret? Frank just posted the most awesome thing on FB:

If you ever catch yourself feeling blue, as we all sometimes do from time to time, here are ten things that if you do three days in a row (I promise) will make you feel better.

    1. In the morning write down five things you are grateful for.
    2. Think about a random act of kindness you can do for someone that day.
    3. Eat well (you know what that means); drink well (no coffee, soft drinks or alcohol).
    4. Exercise hard for 20 minutes.
    5. Write an old friend an email or better yet a letter.
    6. Actively relax, meditate or pray for 10 minutes.
    7. Take a walk in the sun
    8. Watch a John Hughes' movie like "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" or "The Breakfast Club".
    9. Sleep deep and long.
    10. Remember that you are loved (I promise).

Tuesday was a pretty awful day for me! My plumbing backed up on my house! It was slow in coming but suddenly I was out of most of basic necessities. I had to wait til Wed for a plumber to come, (and the saga is still continuing. After a brutal stressful day at work, I got home and my heater had gone out. It was freezing, and I had no water- I was in the freakin dark ages- I had a mini meltdown. Then I calmed down, and slowly got it together. A friend came got the heater going. I used the shower at my gym. My water is now working halfway- I can take a short shower and I can flush the toilet- to me, this is a compulations of things not going right. Not once in all of that did I think, I need to sit down and shove meaningless calories into my face with abandonment.

These issues were beyond my control- but how you recognize and deal is up to you. You are associating food with solving problems. You would have taken in 1100-1500 unneeded calories for comfort? That is almost 1/2 a lb of weight gain- especially if you don't work it off. How is your fitness program? Most of us know how beneficial fitness is to dealing with stress, that is how I deal with my stress, and I feel amazing every time. There are no regrets when you work out- you feel wonderful!

Do I ever binge? Not like I used to- but there are times when I say screw it- and I buy a bag of chips or get pizza- but I don't eat it all. And there is a place down the street, has amazing pizza- but I buy a slice. The bottom line, I am not going to gain anymore weight- I refuse to go back down that path. If I choose to eat it, I will work it off. Most of the time, I work it off before, or I save treats like that for when I know I am going to work it hard.
I teach group fitness classes- Wednesday is my most intense day- so I guess you could say that would be the best day for higher caloric intake?

    the stress is an excuse.

you can use that excuse to eat ice cream.

or you can use that excuse to eat better and exercise harder.

either way, it is your decision.

If you're feeling demotivated, you might need to re-*kitten* your stated inspirations. They are obviously not STRONG enough or SELFISH enough to keep you pumped, most especially when you're presented bad cards. If not, work on mounting a motivation wall with all the promises of fulfilling your desires, so you can see it, taste it, feel it, dream it. Make those inspirations WORK for you. Your prom dress/wedding dress vs ice cream ... VISUALISE ...The feeling of accomplishment when you achieve your goals or even small steps towards your ideal Vs a moment with ice cream. Why give in to an affair with something you know damages your goals - your self control - you. You know you are stronger than that.

Ice cream isn't bad in my opinion, just the lack of control with consumption@ 1/2 a gallon.

Forgive yourself when things do not progress as it should or as you'd planned. Understand that you cannot possibly control everything. Learn to let go and take that walk as suggested above.

Dig deep ... Find your inner growl and rescue the warrior buried within.

You know how you motivate yourself to eat ice cream and chocolate syrup? Apply that same logic to exercise.

Thanks guys. I haven't eaten anything I shouldn't yet. I'm going to kick myself back in gear and try some kind of workout to take my mind off of things and relieve some of that stress. Thanks again!
