I have a pretty large amount to lose (30 kilos-ish) and am wondering which is better for weight loss. Strength training, cardio, or a mixture of both?

Diet.
but strength training helps retain muscle mass.0 -
Diet -- hate that word
How about lifestyle change with movement?0 -
None of those things. Diet is best.
Cardio and strength training is best for getting in shape (depending on what kind of shape you want to be in).0 -
About 70-80% of body composition is nutritional. That being said, I don't know about you, but I don't want to be thinner just to wear small clothes, I want to be strong and capable of doing awesome stuff. This is what exercise is for, getting strong and fast. And getting an awesome body shape. Do cardio, do lifting, and play often.0

In conjunction with a healthy diet, cardio/strength training combo would be the best for losing weight. Try circuit training combining a 3min cardio / 1min strength for about 30 to 40 minutes. Also, have you heard of the Insanity workout? It's what helped me lose the last few pounds I wanted to lose when I plateaued and now, I'm hooked on it.0
