WEIGHT LOSS & PROTEIN SHAKE?

I am thinking of having a protein shake per day... will this make me bulk without working out daily? Will I loose weight still because lads at uni seem to think I will gain weight because protein shake is for bulking up, and it will turn to fat without working out? Is this true?

Thanks x

High protein will help you maintain the muscle you do have while eating at a caloric deficit. As long as that protein shake isn't over and above your calories, go for it. It must fit within your calorie goal to be beneficial for weight loss though.

I lost best when I ate over 100g protein daily.

EDIT: ^ That was before I started lifting. Now I aim for 120-160g daily.

If you're in caloric deficit you'll lose weight, regardless of source.

It's just protein, not steroids. If you're in a deficit, you will lose weight.

    It's just protein.
That's like saying you'll gain weight just because you ate a chicken breast.

That's all it is, a delivery system for some grams of protein...
If you're not over your maintenance calories you won't gain weight.

And if you ever DO find a way to bulk up just by eating or drinking something, kindly let me know....all this time I have been working my *kitten* off pulling 160 pound deadlifts and all I needed to do was DRINK something?!?!?
    MOAR muscle please!

    This. It's really not complicated.

gainers are for bulking.... protein powders are NOT. get one low in fat, low in carbs - high in protein, and you'll be fine. I use protein powder pretty much every day. From your picture, looks like you're a female, you're not going to 'bulk' up.

Someone else said it - it's just protein. It's like eating extra chicken. pretty simple stuff here.
