Yohimbine

Hi I've stumbled across several places that promote Yohimbine as a fat loss aid (mainly stubborn fat).

Has anyone tried Yohimbine and would you recommend it? What were your experiences with it?

I'm trying to lose a couple of pounds.. i'm not over weight but I do have stubborn fat as well.

Thanks!

    Yes, currently.

No short answer for 2nd question. Highly recommended for certain individuals, with certain goals, at certain times. Not recommended for casual MFP user trying to drop weight. PM me for specifics.

I did my homework first. I can shoot you a few links. Experience has been very positive. PM me for specifics.

I chose not to provide detailed answers in the forum because some, for whom it may not be appropriate, will try it as a shortcut and will not do their own research.

Ah, yes. Currently taking it in a diet pill that I have. Well, if you're prone to anxiety attacks, it's deffinately not for you. I know, I'm going to contradict myself here, but it put me into an anxiety attack a few weeks ago, and if you've ever had one, you know they mimic heart attacks in so many ways. Needless to say, I went to the ER, I was actually on my way to school, and was driving past there anyway, and thought I'd stop in until I calmed downed, because it's not good to drive during a panic attack. Anyway, they admitted me on the spot. Did, an ekg, ran blood work, and chest x-ray. My hearts fine, but back to the subject. The doc said, that the yohimbine in the pill was a stimulant just like the caffeine in the pill. However the caffeine constricts blood vessels, and yohimbine dialates the (hence the Erection properties). So, in small doses, it can be safe, but wouldn't reccomend anything over 100mg a day, espcially if you're prone to anxiety attacks or sensitive to stimulants. FYI, I take cellucor HD which has 160mg of caffeine and only 65mg of yohimbe as well as some diuretics. Hope this helps some.

    what this guy said.

I guess you were taking the herbal version and not the HCL? Herbal version is less effective and the sides are worse.

Yohimbe will be a waste of money unless you are already pretty lean.

Yeah I heard about this a while back, but I never tried it due to the negative side-affects experienced by people (on forums). I do not know if I am prone to anxiety attacks, however.. I am prone to major anxiety in general. Also I have not heard any stories coming from FEMALES in particular. And what a surprise, the feedback I get seems to be from the male population.. haha.
I am still on the fence but I am definitely more convinced that it is a safe product.. if consumed lightly.
Any other information feel free to share :)

For a great understanding of how Yohimbine interacts with the body and specifically in relation to fat cells, I'd recommend getting yourself a copy of Lyle McDonalds "The Stubborn Fat Solution". It's geared for people with low BF% but has great information that anyone can use regarding how fat is stored and used in the body. Feel free to PM me if you want me to give you the cliff notes version ;)

I found it very useful for losing stubborn abdominal fat in the single digits of BF%. OTOH, side effects are PROFOUND (for me at least). Recommended dose for me was ~12.5mg, and the most I could ever build up to was 10mg, and even at that point the side-effects were just out of this world.

Alpha-yohimbine is WAY better IMO, even though it's a PITA to source. Same stubborn fat burning effect with minimal sides. Probably slightly less effective due to it being a very mild stimulant, vs. yohimbine which is a very powerful stim, but virtually 0 sides vs. some of the worst side effects I've had from anything (prescription or otherwise) that I have taken... I'll stick with alpha-yohimbine. You can also stack the two if you want, and do a lower dose of yohimbine (I found 5mg yohimbine + 10mg alpha-yohimbine worked well with manageable side-effects). Do NOT under any circumstance stack yohimbine with ephedrine.

Note that either will only be effective if body fat is low enough that free fatty acids in the bloodstream are not adequate to meet energy requirements (usually around ~10% bf for men, ~18% for women), so you have to be really lean to begin with before these are useful. They also have 0 effect if there is insulin in your system. Contrary to popular belief, protein produces insulin (virtually as much as carb sources), so the ideal protocol is to take them fasted, and work out and/or stay fasted for several hours.
