Hi I am a new member , hoping this will help me with my weight loss struggle.I have begun to do the weight machines at my gym but I stepped on the scale this morning and I am up 3 lbs ..been watching my weight my food etc.I have been fighting this battle for so long .I was on anxiety meds for a bit and I thought they were the problem, so went off them , guess not....here's hoping that my weight will come down soon .I am doing alternate cardio, strength training is this a good idea? I do 30 min on treadmill or bike , then the opposite day the weight machines for 30 min.does this seem right as well? I push myself for12 reps.with pushing the last few reps in...I do find I may not be eating the amount of calories this site recommends, should I eat more?.look forward to learning new information.:flowerforyou:

hunny youre doing it right, that gain is supposed to happen, it will come and go each time but its what is exactly supposed to happen. you should read up a little about the process that your muscles use to repair, the fat and the fluid retention, etc- and you wont stress out when it happens each time.
Congratulations - youre on the right track :drinker: Celebrate!!0 -

I am new too. Do not have too much experience in.
However, my dietician says that if you do not each at least 3x day that the body goes no layaway ...it slows down and later says oh! incoming food, lets reserve for later starvation, so to speak. I do not know if this applies to you,. She also says that I am to eat starch at each meal, and a serving of it.
She must be doing something right she is mid aged and a perfect size. She is just an office worker. She follows the Canadian Food Guide.
Do not know if any of this applies to you.0 -
Hi, I have struggled too, so I understand how you feel. I try not to worry about the time it takes....it will just take what time it takes...I try to look at it as a life time thing...and take one day at a time...it will get easier but there will always be struggles...keep at it,,,results take time, but are worth it!!!0

Hey there! When did you start the gym? I started at the gym in Sept (before joining MFP) and I found that initially I did gain a bit of weight but that's just muscle so don't worry The bad weight dropped after.
I have been on MFP for about 5 weeks and I was the SAME weight for 3 freaking weeks!! (it started to drive me nuts). Except that time of month... then I was even more! But, it's finally started to fall off the past 2 weeks so don't give up!
In terms of calories, MFP can make mistakes so it might be helpful to look online to see what others recommend for your height/weight/age.
I will send you a friend request, good luck and don't give up!!0 -
I had the exact same thing happen. It took me a month to lose the 4 pounds I gained when I first started working out but I lost inches. Keep an eye on your measurements over the next few weeks. It will come off! Just keep on keeping on!0

One - you said you just started weight training? And you've gained some weight? This is normal, you will always gain a few pounds when you first start weight training due to water retention. Do not be overly concerned with this; it will come back off and likely as a lump amount.
The other part I want to address is you say you are not eating the amount MFP suggests you eat...does that mean you are eating fewer than 1200 calories per day? Just want to check because this isn't healthy for you and ...it will cause bad results in the end (short term weight loss, long term gain backs with slowing of the metabolism)
The other thing I noticed...(sorry I peaked at your profile) is your age....I'm sorry to tell you, but as we age, it is more difficult to lose weight because our metabolism slows naturally...which means we have to do something to rev it up. You are doing all the right things (except I'm not certain on the calories). You might want to watch your sodium and increase your water intake...both too much sodium and not enough water will cause water weight gain through water retention.
Also, try to strive to get 5 servings of vegetables and fruits per day if you aren't already and slowly increase that to 1/2 your breakfast from fruit (or vegetable) and half of lunch & dinner from vegetables. One - vegetables are low in calories, two - they are full of fiber and fill you up (so I will caveat this to say...do not eat canned vegetables...go for fresh, raw or if required frozen)
You will get there...this is a long term, life time change; no short term fixes in this world. Short term diets means immediate gain backs...we don't want that; so we make life long changes that we can "live with".0
