low sugar low sodium diet suggestions

Does anyone have some suggestions for a low sugar, low sodium diet?

  • Stay away from packaged and canned foods and try not to eat out. I know, I know. It's difficult. But you cannot go wrong cooking for yourself. YOU control the sugar and salt. Lean meats, fish, lots of fruits and veggies, whole grains, beans if you really want to lose weight. Keep it really simple. Even low calorie dressings have a ton of salt in them. Make your own with flavored vinegars, Dijon mustard, a bit of olive oil, dried herbs or Mrs. Dash. (has no salt in it). Many good cookbooks out there too. Hope this helps.

I concur on all those suggestions. I have been trying to reduce my carb load and try for grilled lean meat and fresh vegetables for dinner. I love the grill pan option on top of the stove. I put my meat in then add whatever veggies I want with it once some of the meat juices are in the pan. Currently I like grilling fresh green beans or asparagus with chicken or turkey sausage. Yum!

    Stay away from the following:
Marinades (BBQ sauce especially it's loaded with sugar)
Fat Free alternatives such as fat free cheese and dressings LOADED with sugar and sodium!
    Any frozen meal
    Deli Meat (LOADED with sodium)
    Canned soups

    Buy Foods Such As:
    Unsweetend Almond Milk
    Sugar Free Pudding
    Eggs
Fresh Veggies or Frozen Veggies or no Sodium Canned Veggies
Meat (Chicken and Fish are especially good)
    Tofu
    Low Sodium Black Beans
    Old Fashion Oatmeal
    Truvia/Stevia
Organic Protein Powder such as Brown Rice Protein
Dannon Light and Fit Yogurt (They make a kind specifically for diabetics)
Fruits (That natural sugars will help with cravings)
Boil in a Bag Brown Rice
Things to make your own dressing such as balsamic viniger and olive oil
    Lettuce
    Plan Greek Yogurt
    Avacado
Spices with no salt, marinades with no salt but watch the sugar here.

Always check labels ! There is hidden sugar and sodium in A LOT of foods! And makes sure you look at the servings size too BC they get you there was well.
