how do you know if the weight you lost is just weight and not muscle. I have been reading thread when people say they lost muscle etc and i really would have no clue to knwo whether or not it was actual fat loss or muscle. I do know that you can and will lose both during weight loss but how can you know if it is muscle and how to slow that down?

As far as preventing it:
Adequate protein intake (this value depends on a lot of things)
Resistance training
Reasonable (non excessive) caloric deficit.0 -
You know because :
you have your body fat measured
you've lost inches
you don't jiggle like before
You prevent by :
using them and challenging them
eating a maximum of 20% less than your TDEE
eating a decent level of protein0 -
thanks. well i know i have lost weight and inches but i was hoping it was more fat then just muscle. i have never had my bf measured, maybe i will have to get that done one day in the new year at a gym in the city. I don't have a huge deficit b/c i am trying to maintain pretty much, i just wanted to lose a little more on my lower belly mostly but a inch off my thighs and hips woudl be great too. i am not looking to lose more on the scale , it has just happened ... i try to eat more protein but i find it so hard and i can't afford protein power right now... right now i am doing slim in 6 ,so i am doing a little Resistance training, not heavy heavy but using heavier weights for what i can do right now...0
