Opinions on Protein shake?

I picked up a soy protein mix today.. Info on it is : for 2 scoops (1/4 cup) 137 cal; 14g protein, 1.6g fat; 17g carbs. Is that a decent mix?

It also says that it's a meal replacement - mix with 1 cup 1% milk.. or add to favourite soy bevarage.. Would it work to mix with something like yogurt in the morning? I don't want to use it to replace a meal, but add to the overall protein intake.

I just wanted something to up my protein during the day because during the average day i'm between 80 and 100g protein when i want to be a little higher than that (recommended is at least 140g).

Does this sound like a good one, or would something else (not a mix for example) be better?

where'd you get the 140g of protein number from? Unless you're eating about 1850 cals or are very active that may be too much?

I think you'll find it difficult to eat it to properly mix in the yogurt, but if you eat the whole thing, it should be a big deal.
  • I got the 140g of protein from using this site. *grin*

1600cal per day.. ratio of 40%carbs, 35% protein, 25% fat (though i'm almost always over on that one, still working on it).. So that translates to 160gcarbs, 140g protein, and 44g fat.

yeah 35% is okay as long as you're working out regularly.

I mix protein powder in with plain fat free greek yogurt (1/2 scoop Pure Protein Whey Powder and 4 oz of the yogurt which comes to about 24 g protein -- will vary depending on your brand of yogurt/powder). I mix chocolate powder and plain yogurt and pretend it's pudding; sometimes I have some sliced banana or raspberries with that. Vanilla powder with some flax seed (for fiber), blueberries and blackberries makes a really great tasting breakfast. If you wanted a stronger flavor from the powder, you could use regular (i.e. not greek) plain fat free yogurt, which has less protein. You don't want to eat much more than about 20g protein per meal/snack -- or so I've read. I guess it depends on the individual.

Hope that gives you some ideas!
