I see threads every day about the latest "cleanse" or "detox diet" so consider this a friendly PSA about the APRICOT CLEANSE!!

I've been eating a lot of sodium the last few weeks and thought, hey! I'll try incorporating more potassium-rich foods into my diet to balance that out some and hopefully reduce the bloating/water retention.

I found a helpful list of such foods via google search. Dried apricots were on the list! Yay! I love those, they remind me of gummy candy. So I ate two servings today (about 12 of them).

Turns out, they have a shocking "cleansing" effect similar to what prunes are known for.

I have not been able to stay out of the bathroom and I feel certain that my colon has been thoroughly and completely cleansed multiple times today. If I had any 'toxins' in my system anywhere, they couldn't have lived through all that. Good lord, who knew? Not me! :drinker:

You're welcome.

A new improved google search has revealed that apricots are classified as a plum. Prunes are dried plums. Good to know. If only I'd known BEFORE

Dried apricots are great for "flushing" out...ahem, well you know. :) I would watch out for the sugar content, though, if that's something you usually keep an eye on. It can be pretty high. They are delicious, though!

Ooh. This was an ACCIDENTAL cleanse. Totally "blows" any plans for the day, doesn't it? :b

Seems like I should have known this. Further research reveals that dried apricots are best-known for their laxative effect and eating as few as 3 of them will relieve constipation . I ate 12. TWELVE!! Why did I not know this?

Hmmm...I eat 7 most days for the potassium content without issue. Maybe I'd be bound up without them.

I guess everybody is different. I avoid them - though I love them - because they give me hellacious gas. Makes me hard to be around. Again :b Potassium = good though.

There is Dr. bob Marshall who talks also about apricots for cleanses. See his website very interesting!
  • I love them! The natural ones without any added Sugar, of course. I had no idea, however, that they provide a laxative effect? Crazy! But they sound like the perfect option, when in need for a good cleanse ! Just be sure and schedule AROUND such a day, haha.
