How do you account for calories when you vomit?

Hi. I am real sick today so whatever I eat, they just come back out from my mouth a few minutes/hours later. I am so tired. How do I account for all those calories? Do I count them or do I not (meaning I should eat more)?
Also, please advice me on what to eat that will be soft on the tummy and not let me diarrhea and/or vomit?
I've taken charcoal and ORS to help ease my fatigue and upset stomach but I feel like i should at least eat something.....

I was dumb enough to eat rice and turkey with tomato on the side. Everything got thrown back up in minutes. Now I am just sick and tired ...0 -
Why worry about it.0

I wouldn't worry about it too much for just one day. If you feel like eating some more then do but just watch what you eat since you are being sick.
Hope you feel better soon0 -
if you're sick, calories should be the last thing on your mind. Eat whatever stays down and worry about getting better, not about logging.
Now go lie down.0 -

If you are sick - don't worry about counting calories. Try drinking very slowly some warm ginger ale or lemon lime soda (like Sprite). Don't bother with diet unless you are diabetic. Along with this, slowly start eating some plain crackers like saltines or plain rice or dry toast. After you are able to eat and drink that and keep it down for a few hours, you can start to add in stuff like applesauce, bananas, etc. Proteins should be added in after you have gone several hours of keeping this down. The proteins like meat will be harder on your stomach while you are recovering from the flu.0

I read an article that said once you've ate it, the calories immediently transfer. But you need to go lay down.0

When you are throwing up, you need to keep hydrated, nutrients come later.0 -
If I'm throwing up, the last thing I'm worrying about is calories.0

Ya ... i slept for 3.5hrs after i got back from work immediately. i just want to know for me to get better soon, should i eat back everything? because body needs the nutrient to fight ya? if ya i should eat back, then what can i take because everything i take thus far just come back out.. thanks0 -
Why in the world are you even worrying about it?
Rest and get better and worry about calories when you're healthy again.
Also, you should wait a good 10-12 hours after throwing up to put anything in your stomach again (unless you're showing suigns of accute dehydration. Then you need to go to the ER.). You will only prolong the virus otherwise.0 -

When your stomach is that upset, sometimes it's best to just let it calm down instead of trying to give yourself nutrients. When you've stopped throwing up, try taking small sips of soda, and then eventually move up to sips of sports drinks (like Gatorade) to help replenish electrolytes. That's what's most important right now. You'll probably be able to eat tomorrow or later today.0 -
When I'm sick the only thing I want to eat in the whole world is Lipton chicken noodle soup...the kind that is just noodles and broth.
I wouldn't worry about calories though. But if you've been sick for a couple days and are worried about not getting any calories, try sipping on a meal replacement if you think it will stay down.
Feel better!0 -

thank you. let me go try that.0 -
Don't worry so much about the calories for the day. If you are getting sick then they are not processing in your body anyway. As for what to eat, try to stay with bland foods, banana's, dry toast, salty crackers, things like that. Stay away from meat, citrus, and acidic things as they are much harder on your stomach. Also stay away from dairy until it passes. Make sure to get enough water. Also, ginger ale, sprite, or coke my help settle your stomach a bit. Good luck and hope you feel better soon!0

Gatorade tastes good going up and down if you still aren't feeling well. It's also nice to get some electrolytes in you to replace the vomiting loss.0

who cares!! Your body will tell you when it is time to consume something again. Enjoy the lack of hunger while it lasts lol,0

Your body is clearly rejecting food. If you are sick, just take it easy. Have some soup, maybe only drink the broth. Have some tea. Get enough liquids in so you don't wind up dehydrated. If you are sick with a virus or bacterial infection, then it is best to rest. If I were you, forcing myself to eat is the last thing I'd do.
However, if you are sick and vomiting because of a hangover. I'd drink definitely try to eat something, because that always makes me feel a little better.0 -
le sigh, you're sick so why are you worried about this? *shakes head*0

no it is not from alcohol. my housemate got it too. most like food poisoning. thank you for advice thus far. i shall go back to sleep now. no way i can take solid food at this state anyway. thanks.0 -

That's what I'm wondering?
It's one day.0 -
don't worry about couting calories. you are ill and you need your rest. i'd say stick to bland foods. crackers, bananas maybe some rice and once you get to feeling a little better maybe some chicken noodle soup?
take care.0 -
I don't allow my children to eat when they are sick (vomiting sick, not colds, etc) because you are not feeding your body so much as feeding the virus/bacteria that is causing the vomiting/diarrhea.
When you do start to eat again follow this diet:
B-bananas
R-rice
A-applesauce
T-toast (dry)
Eat only the things on the BRAT diet. I hope you feel better soon. No working out and no logging. Just get better.0 -
Count half the calories unless you throw up right away after eating. That's what I do anyway.0
-
As others have already said please do not worry about counting calories-give yourself a break! Try drinking soups and and smoothies. Non acidic juices too. Get well soon.0
