Life's *Stuff*

Please note: I have given up cursing for Lent. Words with *stars* around them are being substituted for a word I would normally use.

Life is going to throw *stuff* at me. Whether or not I am successful is not going to depend on how much *stuff* life throws at me or doesn't throw at me. My success is going to depend on how much I fight back and keep the *stuff* life throws at me from getting in my way.

Yesterday, I did my two-hour Tuesday. Except it was almost 3 hours. And I increased everything I normally do... my time on the elliptical, the weight lifted during my hour-long strength training, the speed on the treadmill. I was doing my hamstring curls, and at the end of the 2nd set, my hamstrings were burning and cramping up. And I decided, eh why not go ahead with a third set - at the same weight. And then i finished my strength training, and did my 30 minutes on the treadmill. My hamstrings are not happy today though. But i felt that I was in a "plateau"... not really weight-wise, but workout-wise. I know that as I get in better shape, it will be harder to lose weight. And the workouts obviously get easier, so I have to make them more intense. I actually think I waited too long to increase the intensity. I feel like a got into a comfort zone, and I stayed there. Well no more... I'm goign to make sure I increase my workouts as soon as I am ready to.

So today, life threw some "stuff" at me... Mainly blowing a tire as I was getting off the highway near my house. And we couldn't get the lugnuts off to change the tire because they were just simply on too tight. Took 2.5 hours for a tow truck to come from the gas station 3 blocks away. I could have left my car there, walked to the gym, done a full workout, and walked back, before my tire was changed. So by the time my car was driveable, it was almost 9 oclock. I hadn't eaten dinner, I was exhausted, I was cooooold, and o yea, I was exhausted. But, i wouldn't let a little *stuff* keep me from the gym. No, i didn't get a good workout in. But, I did my stretching, especially the hamstrings, and rode the bike for a bit to burn 100 calories. Kept the resistance on low, even ditched my workout playlist and had some nice soothing music to ride to... I got my heart rate up but don't even think I broke a sweat. But at least i did something active to de-stress. I may even go do a quick ab workout if I find i have some energy in a little while.

I hope everyone out there doesn't let life's *stuff* keep them from achieving their goals.

  • Fantastic attitude there. That's what ya call "rolling with the punches" .
  • You did great. Personally, once I would have gotten my car running I would have headed for McDonalds. Thank's for not letting it get you to down and following through. Pat yourself on the back.
