What's your deadlift grip?

Just curious how everyone's deadlifting here

Currently using double overhand for "high rep" sets (6-12), warm-up and mixed grip for strength sets (5 and under)>
What are you doing MFP?

I am definitely weak when it comes to gripping...weights

so i do more of the over hand under hand grip. I switch which hand is over and under per set to try and keep my body even.

I do overhand on one side, underhand on the other, and switch between sets.

Hook grip as much as possible, then mixed grip for the heaviest set.

Overhand in the sumo. I cant get mixed grip right in sumo., Feels weird.
    I use mixed in traditional.

straps for anything in the 300lb territory. I have previously broken wrist that is NOT holding up.

Hook, but then again my deadlift is actually a first pull, or a high pull!

Alternate grip changed my deadlifting life. I was always going pronated, and while I found that while it built up forearm muscle, I couldn't keep up with heavy weights.

I swapped one hand and I went from 105 to 135 easy. (Mind you, I'm a 130lb girl who was just starting out in deadlifting, so for me, that's good).

I'm also considering changing my grip to double overhand hook grip for my "strength" sets or just using straps; I just saw a guy tear a bicep at the gym, went home and watched a few too many deadlift bicep tear videos ...

    Any opinions on that?

A tear in biceps would be caused by bad form. Don't worry about this. Always practice good form.

Double overhand would do the best for your grip strength. but you don't want to limit your working set weigh to what you can hold on to with hook grip, which is where mixed grip comes in.

Straps should be avoided. You should be able to handle any weight you can deadlift without straps. If not, then work on grip strength. Using straps would be counterproductive to this, as they would cause grip strength to fade more and more.

I use mixed for all my heavy sets. Proper deadlifting form and you should not tear a bicep.

I use the overhand hook grip until it fails me, then I pull out the straps.

I do overhand for the first few sets then switch to an opposing grip.

Mixed, but I'm starting to change which hand is over and which is under, just to make sure things are even.

Double overhand up to 300, then opposing grip as far as I can go (405 usually), then straps for the 500 lb+ pulls.

Thanks for your reply I was planning on only using straps for sets that work with 90%+ of my 1rm, double overhand hook grip for the rest. Yeah I do love mixed grip though I'm just starting to consider safer alternatives in light of recent events
  • I do the overhand grip with heavy weights, low reps (6-12 reps) I find using the overhand builds up my forearms. :) I sometimes need to set the bar down to re-grip, but I get right back into it.
