Ladies - need help with TOM..or lack there of!

Okay so i'm going to try to make this short. If I leave out any important information let me know...

First, I started my weight loss journey a year ago this January. I am 5'5 , 28 yrs old, spotless medical history.

SW - 212.5
CW - 166
GW - 145'ish

I lost my first 25 lbs on a VLCD (about 1200)
Then I joined the EM2WL bandwagon and began my reset while dramatically increasing my activity level through (3) 6 week fitness bootcamps. During this time I missed my TOM, then again...and again. I asked my fitness instructor about this and she said that I wasn't eating enough still and to increase my calories. So I did. I went on a cruise and vacation for 2 weeks and ate so much that I was disgusted with myself. The last day of vacation TOM came back and I went back to calorie counting since I gained 8 lbs on vacation (i think about 5 were retention though)...fast forward 1.5 months

So that leads me to today...I thought I was fixed and that my body had finally started to figure out what I was trying to do, but here I am again with no period in sight. Now what?

I'm pretty sure that I have my TDEE narrowed in at roughly 2200-2400 depending on the week and despite the calories that get logged in my diary being closer to 1700 I usually eat more like 1800-2000 because I am a midnight snacker unfortunately.

Should I be concerned or no? Am I just still adjusting? Any thoughts would be appreciated especially if anybody else has gone through something similar.

P.S. I have been eating between 1700-2100 cal a day now and sometimes more for probably 4 months now plus during my 8 week reset a couple months before that . Thanks in advance!

  • A similar disconcerting thing happened to me! I wonder if it is just our bodies adjusting to the changes we are making because I still feel like I am eating enough. I have been at my goal weight for about 6 months now and have been tending to get a favorite Aunty to visit only every couple of months. I guess we should talk to Drs about these things but I hate paying for the visit and it seems others have had a similar thing happen to them too.

If you aren't concerned with possibly being pregnant then I would not be concerned (yet). Your body is going through some stress due to the increased activity levels and diet. It is normal for your TOM to change while your body is adjusting to these new stressers. If you're not regulated in another month or two, then I'd schedule an appointment with your GP and have them check it out.

Why dont you just go to your doc and get checked? Not sure why youd ask "us" if you have a medical problem? Could be nothing, or it coukd be cysts, cancer, who knows what. On second thought, why dont you just wait and see...what possibly could be wrong?

my cycle was all screwed up for a couple of months. I did go get checked out since it was time to go anyway, and nothing was wrong. My doctor just said it happens when you drastically change diet/exercise like I have. If you're really concerned, schedule an appointment. I think it's pretty common though for changes to happen when you lose weight and get really active.
  • Thank you for your replies, except for the one from Bevkus...learn to read Bevkus. SPOTLESS medical history.

I was aware there was some degree of normalcy to missing/irregular menstral cycles when drastically changing how you live. However, the changes with my body didn't happen til 5-6 months into my changed daily life which I thought was odd...AND since it came back and went away again I was curious on other opinions. That is what these forums are for. OPINIONS. The same as if I called my mom up and asked for an opinion.

I think I will wait a bit and see what happens since others have had TOM come and go as well without reason for concern. It is just atypical for me. Thanks again :)
