Hi everyone! My name is Sehban and I am a 22 year old male. I am 5'9 and currently weigh 201 pounds. I have been overweight almost my whole life. I was 210 pounds at my heaviest and managed to lose about 35 pounds. I told myself I would never be this heavy again but it happened. I am feeling down about myself because several people have told me that I have gained a lot of weight. I think one of my major problems is eating out a lot. My friends always want to eat out because I am in a small town and there is nothing else to do. I also don't have great cooking skills. I often run 5-7 miles a week but it does not seem to help. All of my weight goes directly to my stomach and it is so frustrating. I do some strength training but it seems like the weight training is just making me more bulky. Can you guys please give me some advice on how to diet/exercise properly and some good cooking tips? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I would love to have a online workout buddy for motivation. I am only 22 years old and already have high blood pressure. I know it's time to turn my life around. I just need to find a fun way to lose weight. Thanks everyone!!!

hey, i'm 27 with high blood pressure! I'm fairly fit at 5'6 and 145 lbs; so i guess sometimes it's just bad genetics!
That being said, i'd like to get down to 130 to see if that helps my blood pressure at all. Doing Insanity.0 -
I'm 44 and have my blood pressure controlled now but was diagnosed in my 20's.
Walking and losing weight ,40 lbs, helped the battle.I do everything now! variety is key.
Walking, running, swimming, basketball, the occasional class and the gym.

Hi. Unfortunately high blood pressure could just be genetic but losing weight will help you find that out. There are lots of things to do to lower it. A couple thing are to really watch your salt intake and also try to lower stress levels which can be hard to do. As for the eating out issue I would either eat a little something before hand then you can make a healthier choice at the restaurant or you could just tell your friends you can meet up with them after. I'm sorry that people are making you feel down just remember that you are taking the steps to improve your life. Just try to ignore the hurtful comments and take advantage of the support and encouragement you can get here from the mfp community. Feel free to add me as a friend. I'll help encourage you as much as I can. Good luck with everything!0

My husband was in his early 30s & was told he was about to have to go on blood pressure meds and had the beginning of fatty liver disease...this was a serious wake up call for him. He was 5'10" & probably 250+lbs and also carried all of his weight in his stomach. We also ate take out a few times a week and he's never really liked chicken, so we tended to eat beef a few times a week, in things like tacos or burritosor sloppy joes...really fatty unhealthy stuff. He decided going vegetarian was the best bet for him because it makes it really hard to eat out. Going vegetarian is definitely not for everybody, but it definitely works for us. We only get take out (pizza) once a week and rarely (less than 6 times a year go to restaurants). He started off by walking for a least an hour in the eveings then for his birthday, his parents and I got him a treadmill, and he started walking for close to 2 hours a night. He had really bad back problems, so he couldn't do anything high impact. In about a year he got down to about 165 & has stayed there for over a year now. His blood pressure is perfect, no fatty liver disease, back problems are considerably better (he has a degenerated disc, so they'll never go away totally). My suggestions are #1 be conscious of how much you are consuming #2 exercise consistently #3 figure out something different to do with your friends-maybe have movie night at each others houses or everybody can get together and cook (great way to learn from each other also) #4 watch cooking how-tos on youtube-start off simple and you'll get the hang of it.0
