Hello Everyone.

So I went to the gym for a full body test to check my body fat and muscle mass etc.

they also told me that my BMR was 1247 kcal, which i thougt was unreasonably low. so i read online that if you want an accurate num of BMR then i should wear my Polar burned calorie counter for like 7 days then average them out, in order to know my BMR.

well today is my first day wearing the watch and its been 4hr 30mins and i burnt 600 kcals already. so it is really impossible that i burn only 1247 kcal a day, right??

i used to use the formula to calculate my BMR but then i had doubts

did anyone every tried this? or advice please..

    Are you talking about a HRM? If so, NO you cannot use it to calculate your BMR or TDEE. They are only accurate for estimating exercise calories burnt.

    Measuring the calories you burn in a day would give you your TDEE not your BMR. TDEE is the number of calories you need to maintain your weight doing your normal daily activity, BMR is the number of calories you'd need to maintain your weight in a coma.

    Your BMR is influenced by daily activity level. There are lots of online calculators you can have a look and see how the compare with your checkup results.

    BMR = Basil Metabolic Rate
    HRM = Heart Rate Monitor

    HRM is a heart rate monitor which like the others have said would not help you to find your BMR. There are online calculators to find out your BMR.

    I've found the online BMR's to be fairly accurate and similar to the results I got when I was tested. Start off with the online figure. And if you feel you are gaining/losing weight, then increase/decrease your calories by 5g carbs or so and keep doing that until you weight maintains itself. Then that will be your BMR range.
