more pain post op?

Hey everyone!
I had lateral patella release surgery in May. I recovered amazingly! Within 3 weeks I was released from therapy and had NO pain. About a month ago, (5-6 months post op) I begin to have a slight amount of mild pain but was told just to continue to work out and the pain will go away. Now, 7 months post op, I am in severe pain when sitting, bending knee, straightening leg and standing up (pretty much anything other than basic walking on a flat surface).
I have made an appointment with my dr but I am not able to get in until January... I just want to know if anyone has experienced this or knows anything about it.
Also, most things are very painful for me to do, does anyone have anything they can recommend for me to do so that I am able to continue to work out and stay on track with my weight loss?

I've never heard of that particular situation, but you are right to go back to the doc's. As far as weight loss with the inability to exercise, it can be done. I have been using a wheelchair and the Wii (I like tennis for slow stuff and boxing for more intense workout.) I also have been doing some arm strengthening with small weights. You can youtube wheelchair workouts, and there are a few things there. OH, I also have a chair pilates that I do. I can't do it right now because I just had surgery on my knee, and can't bend it yet.0

I'm coming to the opinion that focusing on the caloric expenditures of exercises as a way to judge exercise for weight loss is the wrong approach. From a weight loss perspective, raising your metabolism is more effective - and that is best done with strength training. Muscles burn more calories just to exist. Build muscles = burn more calories. Not during exercising alone; but all the time. Cardio isn't as good from a pure weight loss perspective; but is essential from an overall fitness perspective.

is an article that seems reasonably free from hype.0 -
thanks for your responses...! I will look at what I can do to strengthen while still taking it easy on my knee! Shouldn't be too hard to do0
