Home made Apple Sauce
Ok, so I told my family that I will do a homemade apple sauce for xmas this year. I have found some online already that seem pretty easy, but am just wondering if anyone on here, as any recipes that they are willing to share with me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Crockpot No Sugar Applesauce Recipe
Adapted from Skinnytaste.com. (Note, Gina has some great recipes so check out her website.)
Ingredients:
11 medium apples. I used sweet tasting ones like Honey Crisp. (I used about 5 lbs.)
1 strip of lemon. (I store my used lemons in a freezer bag in the freezer. Then used a 1/2 of the lemon peel.)
2 Teaspoon of fresh lemon juice
3 inch strip of cinnamon
No sugar. ( recipe calls for 5 teaspoons of light brown sugar or agave. Um, ex-nayed on the sugar.)
Instructions:
1. Like I mentioned above, I didn’t skin the apples. If your family doesn’t like that type of texture, then go ahead and peel. I actually took off the skins when the apple sauce was done. It is really easy but a little messy. Kind of like playing in the mud.
2. Core the apples. Don’t include the seeds.
3. Throw everything in the crockpot and let it cook over night.
In the morning you will smell the apple sauce. There may be water in the sauce. You can either cook it down by taking off the lid of the crockpot or drain it and use it as apple juice concentrate.
Note, my crockpot can hold more than 5 lbs worth of apples. You just don’t want to fill the crockpot more than 2/3rd full.
What did the applesauce taste like? A little tart but I like my “sauce” that way. You can always add sugar. Um, and it was brown not yellow like store bought apple sauce. I did put lemon on the apples right away but I think the cooking makes them brown.0 -
Thanks Ckish. I knew I would find something interesting from YOU! :flowerforyou:0

I can it and I use the recipe from the Ball encylopedia of canning. It's excellent, unsweentened (but you can add sweetener if you want) it keeps for about 2 years and I made about 20 gallons from my apple tree this year.
If you can things, message me and I'll send you the recipe. It's super easy.
If you don't can, just find a recipe you like and freeze it. Look for a recipe where you remove the skin, cut and steam with little water in a soup pot. Choose one with spices you like. I like cinnamon, cloves and cardamom.0 -
And don't forget to put water with lemon juice in it on the apples after they are cut to prevent browning.0

You can also use citric acid.0

Ingredients
2 oranges, zested and juiced
1 lemon, zested and juiced
3 lbs Granny Smith apples(tart)
3 lbs McIntosh red apples (sweet)
1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed (** I usually omit if it's for my personal use)
4 Tbsp unsalted butter (I have cut this down from the 1:2 ratio@1lb of apples=2Tbsp butter)
2 tsps ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground allspice
1 1/4 tsp ground cardamon(to release the aromatics)
Method
**Preheat your oven @350 degrees F. We like to bake ours because it's faster and I believe the apples achieve a caramelised flavour.
1. Peel and zest lemons and oranges.
2. Place them in large bowl
3. Peel and core apples(I like the skin so I usually omit this step)
4. Toss the sliced cored apples in the lemon and orange juice as you work through the batch
5. Pour the contents of the bowl of apples into a Dutch oven or a sturdy oven proof baking iron pot
6. Distribute the brown sugar(if you so choose), butter, cinnamon, all spice and cardamon evenly over the apples and cover with lid.
7. Bake in hot oven for about 1 1/2 hours or until you test that the apples have softened.
8. If you peeled your apples - you may just use a whisk to smoothen the texture. If you left the skin on, ladle apple mixture into a food processor and pulse until smooth.
** IF your apple sauce will be used to accompany goose, duck or pork the sauce NEEDS to be fairly tart. That means that you should omit the sugar and the sweet apple breeds. If you have no choice with the apples(only sweet varieties are available, then add a little more lemon juice to make it tart).0 -

I just cook apples in water with a tiny amount of lemon juice and whiz in a stick blender. I like to add sugar, honey or stevia after (to taste) depending on what I eat the apple sauce with.0
