Bring God back to school.

I am seeing a lot of posts on facebook and other social media lately regarding the CT shootings and how we need God back in our schools. ?????
As a Christian, I firmly believe that He has never left. My kids bring Him to school every day. Yes, we no longer force students to pray...but what does forced prayer mean anyway? No, teachers cannot preach God's word to students, but that is okay with me. My kids hear it at home and in church. There are so many different religions, and even different denominations within the same religion. There are a lot of similarities between faiths, but also a lot of areas of controversy. A person's faith is a very personal matter, and to try to come up with a curriculum that would accomodate all of them is impossible. Even if we tried, the message would probably be some watered down Christallahbuddhamormanism. And THAT is why there should not be religion in schools. Teaching our kids about God is not the job of public officials. It is the parent's responsibility to teach it, talk about it, and LIVE it! To the best of our ability. If we need God in our schools, then it is our job as parents, to make sure that our kids bring Him with them wherever they go.

While I agree with your sentiment, lets keep god out of our MFP, please.

Luckily, my church has a school as well, so I don't have to really worry about this. But as an educator myself, I don't believe in teaching religion at school. But i don't have an issue with using famous religious texts in the classroom. I think they teach students moral behavior. I teach at a college and I have my students read from religious and philosophical texts from across the globe. I think they are important and teach morality: Confucianism, Daoism, Buddhism, and the Bible, etc
