If you're sick, I would rest.
Additionally, if you train in a public gym it's pretty inconsiderate to show up with an illness unless you're certain that its not contagious.
  • if its an illness neck line up just go at it and you will find you get better quicker..

chesty illnesses i find my hear rate is sky high due to airways being inflamed..

    food poisoning dont even bother..

    muscle pain, beast mode ON!!

joint pain - use some different limbs :)

It depends...if I just have a few sniffles, it's business as usual. If I'm actually sick...like calling into work sick, I take it easy. The body needs that energy to make itself better.

Pretty simple for me - if I feel good enough to exercise, I do; if not, I don't. I definitely agree with the advice to stay out of the gym if you've got something contagious, though.

Depends on the type of illness, throwing up or diarhia nope stay home and close to the bathroom. Fever no stay home and don't infect others. A runny nose and cough but otherwise fine yes, I was sick for four weeks and did my routine as per usual just put a stack of tissues and cough drops on the treadmill in front of me ;).

Honestly you have to decide what works for you, some people thrive on pushing through some people like to stay in bed and get better there is no right one size fits all answer.

I also clean my machine when I am done like I'm getting it ready for surgery when I go to the gym, any surface I touch gets wiped down twice, if you saw me you'd probably think I was OCD lol

I had the flu all last week and didn't push it. Especially since I couldn't skip work (public university employee and paid a week ahead due to Christmas Break) and also had Finals! I COULD skip work obviously if crazy sick but it's a pain! I also had a 10K run that was scheduled for Saturday. I would of walked it had the flu kept on but the worst of it was Wednesday/Thursday. THANKFULLY it worked out but I did not run at all except Monday which is where I probably caught the flu in the first place.... High chill winds.

I'd say gauge yourself. Will you get more sick if you work out? Do you have social obligations or priorities that you could potentially ruin if you exercise? Or if you do work out what if its not even possible?

So yeah! Its a balancing thing....
