Anxiety

Sorry to be a downer but... I've been feeling really anxious lately about the whole Mayan end of the world deal and the school shooting and all of that. I have anxious thoughts like "What if the end of the world really comes, what if someone shoots me at work or while I'm out doing Christmas shopping etc". Can anyone else relate to this? Do you ever have anxious thoughts/feelings when you read about these things in the news? How do you deal with your anxiety?

have you tried fact checking? the mayan calender didn't include things like leaps years and other factors and would have ended years ago. also remember the year 2000?

Yeah that does help me calm down. I'm just paranoid, I dunno. I'm a wreck!0 -

i have a friends who's kinda the same :P i say, we take small risks everyday, everybody does. cross a road, leave the house, breathe air eat food, enter buildings. we've been fine for years. a little fears good, it stops you stepping under a truck. but don't let it stop you doing the things you want to0 -
I have a diagnosed anxiety disorder, so I get where you are coming from.
The thing that helps me is, if we were to not do something because of the "what if" that comes with it, we wouldn't have much of a life. Can't walk the dog. What if I get hit by a car? What if a tree branch gets struck by lightening and falls on me? What if my dog runs off and I get lost and can't find my way home? What if I get attacked?
Any circumstance in life has what ifs, every circumstance has a danger. we don't stop living because of it.
If you research, you will find that Mayans recording things happening after the end of 2012. The calander was merely one of three they had, and was designed to be used as a continuing cycle, not designed to end at any given point.
The sun will come up tomorrow, and it will go down tomorrow, and for a good 99.99% of us, we will see it rise on the 22nd, like any other day.0 -
Thanks for the support! I know I'm being irrational lol But I don't let anxiety get in the way of me enjoying my life, I just have those obsessive thoughts sometimes0

Yep! Plus the whole 2012 seems like a load of crap. Notice shortly after the media made a big stink about it a movie was released? Some new random thing or person can "predict" the end of the world every year it seems. I joke with my friends and have told them that Wal-Mart is so evil they probably paid people to make the whole thing up so people freak out and stock up on supplies.

Here's what I'd suggest, though, regarding random acts of violence.
Get some training, find a gun that you feel comfortable with, and get your concealed carry permit if you happen to live in a state that 'allows' you to have your Constitutional right to carry. You might also get a permit for any state you routinely travel to.
We can't prevent crazy/stupid people from doing evil things, but we can be prepared to defend ourselves and our loved ones when evil knocks at our doors.
Be in peace. When it comes down to it, God's in control. But even knowing all that we lock our doors and put on our seat belts, right? We eat healthy and see the doctor to keep an eye on our health, right? So get trained in self defense and carry a gun.0 -
I couldn't disagree more with the 'carry a gun' lady above. The more guns are around, the more gun-related tragedies we will have. A gun won't protect you from any of the things that are most likely to kill you, but having one around will endanger you and your family members.
Try exercise, it's a great way to help deal with stress and anxiety. Or distract yourself with a good book, interesting work, or something else that will take your mind off the things that are worrying you.0 -
I'm actually reading this website http://notalwaysright.com/ its pretty freakin hilarious! Very distracting. Sucks working night shift cause my options are limited.0

Yes I mainly stay away from the news and newspapers. Little Big ignorant of what's going on most of the time but I can't cope with all the badness in the world. Some things your bound to hear about but I'd make a conscious effort to not watch the news or read papers. Do a bit of exercise. Will help the anxiety x0

I agree with this person!!! Violence begets more violence!!! Imagine having a gun and being in a situation where you panic needlessly and hurt someone with that gun! We need less guns in this country, not more! Just relax! Live your life to the fullest! If you are really struggling, see your doctor about it. And stop watching the news. Yes, tragedies happen, but the media inflames stories to create panic. Focus on your own life and living one day at a time.0
