Read Allen Carr's Easy Way book, it worked for me after 20 years, around 3 years off them now, I couldn't tell you when exactly I quit because it seems like I was another person.

You have to decide that you will no longer be a smoker. Then don't buy smokes. Prepare yourself too, with the gum/patches/ healthy snacks, things to keep you occupied and your mind and fingers busy...
When I quit 2 years ago it was the 3rd time I quit and I just made the decision to never smoke again, instead of buying more smokes I bought gum. I didn't even need the gum though it was like a switch had gone off in my head and that was it. I went cold turkey and haven't gone back.
If your mind is ready to quit it will be so much easier than if you do it kicking and screaming. I havent craved a smoke since the day I quit the last time, but the other times I quit I was in a constant state of craving and I would always give in to that after 3 - 6 months. Having your mind in the right place really helps.0 -
