For an android phone that I can use to track how many miles I am running?

I know that I have Maps that is pretty good with where I am on the road in relation to what it shows on the screen, so...

I would like to use my phone as a tracker so when I am done runnning I can say, WTH.. I only ran 4 miles?

so.. any one have any ideas?

I don't have an android so can't give you too many recommendations but you can try Runstatic. I've heard good things about that app. Maybe search the Android market for GPS/running apps as well?

Yeah, I typically use Runkeeper and Mytracks when I'm running. Every run. It ran flawlessly on my original droid incredible, on a rooted droid inc, and now on my S3. No issues, no qualms. I've never had it force stop or crash.

    well that was easy! Thanks

My co-worker just told me of Log your Run as I told him now about what you recommended.

No problem. If you want to be a geek about it, I'd run Mytracks as well. It's google based and uploads to a number of their services. I've seen and heard of Log your Run and the same with the Nike+ deal, but I've had no complaints with Runkeeper. Nifty built-in training options with it as well.

I use MapMyRun. It talks to you and tells you the total time you've been running, how many miles you're at, and your average pace. It also uses GPS to generate a map of your running location. It will tell you how many calories you've burned as well. You can play with it to have it tell you longer/shorter distances (it's set to talk to you at every mile), split your mile times, etc. I love it!

ETA: I have an iPhone, so I'm not sure if MapMyRun is available for Android, but it's worth looking into!

I have an iPhone and use the Nike tracker in my shoe in conjunction with Nike+ and RunKeeper. I'm not sure if there is a similar setup for Droid, but it might be worth looking into.

I didn't see Nike Tracker on my Droid Razr, but I did down load Run Tracker, I will put in the MyTracks as well.

do you do this to compare accuracy?
  • I use RunKeeper and LOVE it! My husband uses CardioTrainer and prefers it.
    Both are good apps

RunKeeper has a map of where you went, will give you all sorts of good information at different intervals during your workout (you choose when) like avg pace and distance as well as current pace and distance.

At the end of your workout it shows you how long you worked out, the distance you went, calories burned as well as your average pace.

It also has several options on which type of workout you are doing.
Cardio Trainer does have more options on activities as well as a few other features that RunKeeper does not have,

Endomondo works great and you can automatically sync your workouts to MFP.
It will talk to you and tell you your distance and time also.
I've been using it for years and I am very happy with it.
You can log in online also and see even more of your stats on there.
