Lies that I used to tell myself...

Before I finally decided to get some gumption and actually change my diet and exercise and lose the extra weight I'd carried around for almost a decade, I told myself many lies. Here are a few...

"After having a baby, my hip bones moved. That's why I wear a larger size pants now. It's not fat!"

"If 60% of the population is overweight, then I'm normal. What's the big deal?"

"I only wear a size 10. That's not fat. Even though that body fat scale says I'm 34% b.f.. That thing MUST be wrong!"

"But I eat mostly healthy stuff and exercise occasionally. I shouldn't be fat" (calories are calories, it's all basic math - I know that now)

So...how about you? What lies did you tell yourself?

Lies I told myself was the same lie I posted on profiles online- That I just had "Afew extra pounds" I was in denial, which was why I didn't even try loosing weight like I should have.

When I was at my heaviest (100 pounds ago) I told myself that my BMI was in the "Obese" range because I was more muscular than the average woman. Like I was some sort of professional athlete or something!.

For me it was just "I can't loose 55 kg" full stop. Luckily I proved myself wrong as well and now weigh 83 kg.
  • "I'm only 20 pounds overweight"... when I was 35 over

"I'm only 50 pounds overweight".... when I was 75 over

... and even when I was 130+ over, I said it was "100 pounds extra".

It's ok to cheat and eat all of this food. I will just make up for it later.

    Biggest lie ever for myself.

I'm not fat or anything. Just a little overweight. I'm naturally "stocky".

I can't run or anything like that because I have asthma.

I'm much happier not caring about exercise or eating healthy

"My husband loves me no matter what"

While this certainly isn't a lie, it was the biggest excuse I used. Another good one (this is a lie)

"I'm a stay at home mom, and mom's don't have time to worry about their appearance."

(Love the ticker that says "Whatever doesn't kill me had better start running!" Hilarity.)

My lies were, "There aren't healthy options for me because I'm a picky eater."

"I have a large frame so even if I lose weight, I'll still look fat."

"I don't care what people think of me and I don't care if I die young."

"I don't want to get married or date anyway, so why do I need to look good to get male approval?"

    "I'll never be healthy."

I've got a lot of muscle, and muscle weighs more than fat, that's why I weigh this much.
  • I'll start tomorrow
    I'll just have one
    I'm not that unfit

But biggest lie, I'm happy the way I am.
  • "I'll just have one..." and "Meh... I'll start tomorrow" and "I'm pretty happy with how I look"

    Ditto!

I used to believe this too...but eventually, my wife convinced me of the truth...and that is, when I drink, I become obnoxious(er).

Oh, I told myself this one today after eating my calories before 3:00 p.m. " I just won't eat any supper or evening snack." Yeah, right!

    Lies...

I don't look as heavy as I really am. Also: Other people don't think I am fat.

I may be overweight but I am not actually "obese."

I may be overweight but I am healthy.

People should like me for who I am, how dare they suggest I need to lose weight or criticize my choices.

I am too busy doing more important things to make the time to exercise.

I already know about nutrition, make healthy choices, and don't really eat that much, anyway.

I will never get to my goal weight so why break my heart trying? (Still struggling with this one.)
  • I don't care how I look. I am comfortable with my size.

I will start dieting on Monday. On Monday, I would tell myself, "I will eat what I want today, I can start tomorrow."

"I carry my weight well. I don't look as if I weigh 240 pounds." I would look at pictures of myself and freak out!

"This is my body's happy weight."

    "My metabolism is shot."

"I'm just not meant to be a runner."

"I look good for someone in her late 30s who doesn't work out."
(Which was true, but I look much better as someone in her 40s who does.)
