Hi everyone.
I have been trying to loose weight for a while, and after have been overweight for m whole life, I have finally reached the "normal" weight according to BMI. I would still like to lose around 6 kgs more, as I have always wanted to look "nice", I joined MFP around a month ago (back then I was still a bit in the overweight class) and my daily calorie count was set to 1200 a day. Im following that most of the time, and very once in a while I excisize (running and strenght mostly), but I barely have time between 2 jobs, a dog and school so this whole eating less calories kinda works for me at the moment.
But I have been surfing the forums here on the site and the whole BMR confused me quit a bit, I tried to calculate it on fat2fit and it told me I should eat around 1600 calories. Im so confused!!!
I was doing okay with the lower amount of calories, but now I dont know if it is "unhealthy" for me?
Could somebody help me on what to do? Perhaps Im calculating it wrong? Im 23 years old (girl), a student so most of m day is spending sitting I guess, I am 179 cm tall and weigh around 78 kgs. Oh and last time I was "messured" I had a bodyfat procent of 24.5
Please help me loss weight the right way!
Love Diana

MFP is known to put people on too few calories, especially women. It started me at 1200 when I first joined, but I really felt like crap. I moved myself up to 1350 and I felt better, but was still hungry. I did the fat2fit calculations and my BMR is around 1600 too. I now usually eat around 1800 and I feel great. I'm still losing weight too and I am not exercising very much right now.0

Students do not just sit on their butts, up and down stairs and around campus. I know that is how I stayed skinny then. You will wear yourself out if you do not eat more.0

The 1200 calorie intake did work, but yes, I was going to bed hungry more often then not and not liking it. I did it for about 5 weeks, then I hit my goal and was VERY happy to change my parameters and get up to 1510 calories. This is working better for me, it did slow down my weight loss, but did not stop it. I dumped another 3 lbs at this intake and I am not hungry going to bed. It's easier to stick to.0

I entered you numbers into the calculator here http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/ using the lightly active 1-3 hour activity level and a 15% cut of your TDEE.
So this shows that your BMR is 1617, your TDEE (total daily expenditure) is 2224 and your 15% cut would be 1890. This is the method that I follow so you would set your calorie target to 1890 and eat this each and every day. Your activity is included in the total for the week. Stick with that number for 6 weeks then eat at TDEE for a week to give your body a break and to stop it from thinking that 1890 is your TDEE.
I eat at 1850 a day, a 10% cut for me. I just didn't want to eat 1200 forever so decided to 'give it a go'. It's the best thing I ever did.
I hope that makes sense. There is lots of info here - http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/3834-eat-more-to-weigh-less Take time to read the stickies on the forum. In particular read:-
