Back in the gym :)

Today was amazing. I went to the gym for the first time in like 5 years. It really felt great.

My workouts have been mainly walking/jogging at the park and my treadmill at home. What are some new things I can incorporate that burn alot of calories? It's a Planet Fitness so it seems like they have a wide variety of machines... kinda overwhelming for a new person.

I tried the Arc but it was really awkward. lol I was embarrassed so I jumped off of it and went to the bike.

  • Check to see if they have an exercise guru there that will help you plan your workout. We all need cardio and strength training. I do water aerobics. I try to get to the Y daily but sometimes miss. Best wishes!

Don't be embarrassed to use the arc trainer, I used it the whole time I lost the first 30 pounds or so. Up to 5 days a week for 30 minutes each time :) I challenge you to try and it watch how many people hop on and then quit while you stay on.

It's a really good piece of equipment and gives you a great workout.

Maybe ill try it again tomorrow.... it was half embarrassment and half underestimating the machine. I was reallllllly tired when I got on it after jogging and doing the bike for 70 mins.

I wasnt sure what to expect there.... i noticed alot of guys just sitting around in gym clothes and messing with their phones. Is that normal for all gyms? Guessing they are just trying to look cool?

It's not the people that go there, 'planet fitness' IMO is a huge joke, and many in the fitness industry would agree.

Congratulations! No need to be embarrassed! When I started at the gym I could only walk on the treadmill for 5 minutes and the bike for 3. Now I can do 40 minutes and 20 on the bike.I still look kinda funny doing the other machines but I keep trying. Your doing a great job!!!

Who cares if it's Planet Fitness. Congrats on getting back in there man, just stay motivated and try out whatever you feel like. Unless you start doing curls in a squat rack no one is going to even think twice about what you are doing.

Well, that will happen through diet alone as I'm sure you know. So I assume you want to preserve muscle and strength? I'll get back to your reply tomorrow - 3am here and off to bed.

Planet fitness is fine for someone just starting out. Take advantage of their free personal trainers, and have them set up a routine for you. Try their circuits, circuits are a good way to burn a lot of calories in your weight training sessions. They just won't do much for adding strength.

I mostly use Planet fitness for cardio, and tanning, now. (They have more equipment, and tv channels than my other gym. )

Planet fitness doesn't have squat racks. He'd have to do them on a Smith Machine.
