yes i agree...and it's not like i eat it everyday....we usually get it every 2 weeks on payday, so i'm not overally worried about it....just looking at the sodium intake on the subs I use to eat is DIGUSTING...I cannot believe the amount of sodium i was putting in my body..make no wonder I'm fat0 -
Great that you're watching your sodium intake. Too much sodium can cause you to retain water; lowering sodium can help you drop 2-5lbs, especially in the first few weeks of adopting healthy eating habits.
A lower sodium, lower carb option is to eat wraps instead of sandwiches. Whole wheat, tomato and spinach wraps have plenty of flavor, too! I'm not sure if Subway offers wraps, but it's something to look into.0 -
its the deli meat -- I swear its loaded with sodium! drives me crazy cause I love sandwiches0

you are soooooooooooo right.....i know understand the reason i'm so fat....it's not WHAT i was eating, but HOW MUCH....i had no idea about sodium intake until I joined this site and started couting everything....i know that the 15lbs i've lost is because of the reduction in sodium0 -
I am trying to avoid deli meats, or at least meat and pork, because of all the sodium nitrates. Here are some of my favorite sa'miches:
marinated eggplant, cream cheese, and sun-dried tomatoes (marinate with anything but balsamic vinegar rocks!)
avocado, plum tomato, red onion
artichoke hearts, mushrooms and cheese, toasted!0 -

That sounds RIDICULOUS!!!! (In a good way). My mouth is watering. Not to be a moron, but is the eggplant eaten cooked or raw?0 -

Eggplant does not necessarily need to be grilled or baked, although most sandwiches are served that way. I juice eggplants all the time! The sandwich prep still takes time, though.
To avoid cooking it, I marinate thin slices in oil and vinegar for about an hour. Sometimes, especially if the eggplant is very seedy, I salt it and let it sit for a few minutes. The salt pulls out what some people consider to be a bitter taste. I actually have only salted them when I prepare eggplant for others, as I myself have never noticed a bitter taste.0 -

That sounds soooo good! Although I've never been a fan of eggplant unless it was fried in breadcrumbs... horrible! I never thought of adding any of that to make it taste better. I love sun-dried tomatos and the creem cheese with it sounds delicious!
As for subway... I love subway! But I'm a vegetarian so of course I like the tuna & the cheese! The worst parts of the sandwich for me! But I guess it's a healthier choice for me to grab a 6" veggies with cheese or tuna & cheese than it is for me to stop at Mcdonalds or eat fried food.0 -
Or do what I do and take snacks with you into the store (snacks that you've preportioned out). They must laugh at me at the store, here I am, walking up and down the aisle, munching on my almonds or dried fruit or whole wheat pretzel.... And I'm laughing all the way to the scale.....lol
