How to heavy lift?

Hey all.
I'm a 5'2 137lb female, and I've heard a ton of good things about heavy lifting. I'm thinking that may be something I'd like to get into, hoping to get down to 115-120 before my July 6th wedding.
I've done some googling and everyone seems to have something different to say. Do you mix cardio in with it? If so, on alternate days or on the same days? Do you still eat at a calorie deficit or a surplus since muscle is being built?
I've always thought 60 minutes of cardio was the way to go, but now I'm thinking heavy lifting might be the way to help me torch the fat and help me look good on my honeymoon.
Thanks for the help!
