Hair Coloring

I have a question for all of you who get your hair done. I recently on Tuesday went to someone that I know who does hair coloring professionally. I had my roots fixed and blonde put throughout my hair. I even got toner to help keep the blonde in. However, it's Friday, and my hair is starting to turn a reddish orange color. I've been told if it's done right that it shouldn't turn color.
My questions are:
Should I have her fix it?
If I have her fix it, I'm assuming that I should make her do it for free?
Or should I just go somewhere else?
I paid $80 to get it done, and I'm not happy it's turning red.

I'd have her fix it and have her do it for free. You paid her to do a job that she's supposed to know how to do. So if it were me I personally would go back to the salon and make her fix it for free.0

I'd certainly give her a call and tell her how it's changing and ask her what she can do about it.0

Agree.......Fix it for free. Something went horribly wrong!0

That's what i was thinkin! especailly for first time highlights, when i got mine done i paid $150.00 Thank god i'm gunna be going to school for it so free hair coloring,shampoo's/conditioners,cuts and make up... well,im sure that its not free, cause i do pay to go to school and stuff.lol
She might have put to much of one chemical in when she mixed the color AND as a professional courtesy she should fix it FOR FREE!0 -
Thanks everyone0

You have to go back and get her to fix it...and she will for FREE....she has to. I wish I did that once when I ended up with a bumble bee hair color (black and yellow stripes) ..when I asked for a more natural caramelishblonde highlights on dark brown ....
I have now given up on hair coloring as I don't believe anyone can give me what I really want, they always say that they can do exactly like the picture and then they tell me excuses after the mess up..... I also have realized that my natural hair color looks the best on me and that saves me time & money!0 -

$80 is not cheap in my area. $60-$100 anywhere you go around here.0 -
You can solve this problem two ways: Go back and give her another crack and possibly mess things up even worse (eg, fry your hair). Or find a new hairdresser who actually knows what she is doing. I've been in the same situation and it's not fun to lose good money on a bad hair coloring. But what is worse is going back to the same person who has already made one mistake and hoping she doesn't make another one. I understand everyone makes mistakes. But I don't want ANY mistakes when it comes to my hair. LOL0

If I were you I'd go back and have her re-do it, and make a fuss about it to see if you can get it cheaper, or possibly free. Then again.. I really don't go to salons, I just learned to color my hair all kinds of colors myself, so I don't have much experience dealing with salon people. Best of luck, I know it's crappy having your hair turn a color you don't want!0

That's what I was thinking.. If I redo it, I have a feeling it's just going to turn out the same anyways. The thing is, she did it over a year and a half ago blonde, and it didn't change colors then, so I find it odd that it's doing it now.0 -

I have a feeling that she either didn't use a strong enough color or she needed to bleach the hair first. If toner was actually used, she may not have used the correct one. Sorry that you are going through this. This isn't a fun decision, especially if you liked her other work (haircuts, highlighting, etc).0 -

Yeah, apparently my fiance was saying he remembers seeing the color change last time. So maybe I'm wrong and I just didn't notice the change when I last had it done over a year ago. I have a couple good references to go to now and I know they are good because I've seen the hair that they've done, so hopefully I can get an apnt in january and get it fixed.0 -
Here is my two sense as a colorist for the last 15 years. Red is one of the hardest colors to maintain. The molecules of red are larger, therefore they never fully penetrate the hairshaft like other colors do. Without knowing what shade of red she applied to you, or the state of your hair ( previous color, porosity, texture, ect ) it's hard to say if the fading to red orange was to be expected. Also what you're doing to it at home makes a huge difference. If you're not using professional products in your shampoo, conditioner and styling aids ( sulfate which is in shampoos will strip color, wax in conditioners, and alcohol in products ), as well as mechanical distress ( blow drying, flat ironing, ect ). So it may not be her fault at all, but yours.
Ok I re-read and you wanted blonde... not red at all? She didn't allow the bleach to process long enough. The toner was to counteract any brassiness that may have occured ( green base for red, violet for yellow, blue for orange ). If the toner wasn't enough, then it just needs to be redone and left on an appropriate amount of time, with a peroxide level high enough to break through.0
