Menopause and Weight Gain - at 42!

Hi there,
I'm looking for advice from other ladies who have been fortunate enough to experience premature menopause. I had relentless symptoms (hot flashes every 40 minutes 24 hours a day, a year of struggling to lose weight with the tools that had always worked before, sleeplessness) and went to the doc in November. Hormone levels were crazy and I was put on Enjuvia right away - symptoms gone! Yeah! BUT, I have gained 10 pounds in 8 weeks. 10 pounds. And I am afraid the scale will just keep going up. My doc and I had a great heart to heart on this...she said, yup, it sucks. And that I probably need to cut 4000 or more calories out of my weekly intake through diet and exercise. So, that means back to the 1200 calorie or less food diary (I was at 1600) AND getting in frequent, high calorie burning workouts, AND trying to keep up some weight lifting since I will start to lose muscle now. Does anyone have a good routine they follow - a food diary they can share so I can just copy it - a nice gym workout one can do in an hour (I work full time, have two kids who still require a lot of momma running around for them)? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I'd ask for a thyroid test. None of that is normal at all. Something is going on out of the ordinary for you to gain that much in that short of a time unless you've moved in at McD's.

I'm 31 and I have been in menopause for 6 years thanks to a full hysterectomy at 25. I have gained 75 pounds within 5 years. It has been a battle to lose every pound since then. I have had every test possible and my doctor said that this is just the way it is. When we go into menopause our bodies slow down. I stick to 1200 calories a day, cardio 5 days a week, strength training 3 days a week (have to keep the bones strong), and just expect to lose ½ a pound a week. :) Best of luck and try to keep your head up!
