Bananas. I need to remember to buy and eat a half of one every day even though it tends to make me feel queasy. I do not get enough potassium.

They spice up my life!
  • I've been hooked on these for a while now. Their skin comes off easily as compared to an orange, and they taste great.

I recently tried my first pomelo. I learned that it is commonly sprinkled with salt, so I sprinkled mine with Morton's No Salt and between the pomello and the No Salt, my potassium levels were wonderful. They are a bit expensive (I paid $2.49 for one fruit) and though the fruit is large, the edible part is small. English cooks like to use the white rind for marmalade. The pomelo is much milder than common grapefruit and I would eat it much more often if availability and price weren't such obstacles.

Just for fun, when I researched the fruit, I discovered that it originated in Asia and is sometimes called Asian grapefruit. Our familiar grapefruits are actually a cross between the pomelo and an orange (I forget the strain).

I love fresh raspberries, bananas, fuji apples, plums, and fresh Northern Michigan blueberries (fresh as in I picked them myself). The wild blueberries on the UP of Michigan are the BEST!

Bananas because they are delicious and phallic.
  • Tamarindo, I go in to the asian store and do my best to speak their language so I can ask where it is. I like the pureed unsweetened kind, just one jar of sour, sour goodness

Correct me if I'm wrong but I could've sworn bananas were simple carbs...

the carbohydrates in a banana are fructose and fiber. Fructose is one of the best carbohydrates you can eat. It does not spike your insulin ( very much). The banana will be digested rather slowly, as it is. It probably does not contain very much fructose, either....maybe 8 grams at the most.

So it's a bit more complicated than just labeling it simple or complex.....I probably should have not used either term really =P

Also, it depends on how ripe or under-ripe it is. Very under-ripe bananas have a lot of starch in them and may be considered to be a complex carb. As the banana ripens, much of that starch converts to fructose and therefore, a very ripe banana would be considered to be a simple carb. But like I said, fructose doesn't spike your insulin levels.
