Still hungry :(

hey, i just need some advice on what I should do!
For some reason, this two week... I have been having terrible urges to eat! Even after I have had all my calories. Which is 1200.
I have started up running as cardio. Running about 3 miles a day. Could this be the reason why?
Do I eat over my calories to keep my system running? or do I continue to remain strict?

    Did you eat back your exercise calories? If not, do so. Even if you did, if you're really hungry you should eat. Try something with protein.

    Yes!! Eat back your calories. If you dont you will just get worn down and it could affect your mood. When i first really started working out there was a whole week where I did not eat back my calories and come friday i was in the worst mood ever and felt horribly sick. Ever since then I always eat back my calories and the weight still comes off.

    You're very young. You appear to have a job. You exercise. You are at a healthy weight. What the heck are you doing eating 1200?

    Figure out your TDEE and eat that, minus about 200 calories. For Chrissakes, you should be eating probably more like 2100 calories PLUS Exercise calories.. No wonder you're hungry.

    Are you adding your running in the excersice catagory? You may need additional calories so you don't loose muscle, and your body may be letting you know with hunger pains. If you add your running it will tell you to add some calories to your diet. I would choose some healthy protiens like raw almonds and an apple, or even a protien shake after your running and see if it helps.

    Sounds like you are hungry because you aren't eating enough.
    Try eating more, but healthy, filling foods. Make sure you are drinking enough liquid. You need more when you exercise. Eat enough for your basic needs, including the extra calories you burn off exercising. Foods high in fiber can be filling. Feelings of hunger may also be caused by thirst or missing nutrients. For instance if your body is not getting enough fat or protein, it can cause hunger cravings.

    MFP has already set a deficit for you. Eat back the exercise calories.


    Also, judging from your ticker, you're very close to your goal. Readjust your deficit to lose .5 lb a week to help with the hunger.

    Bottom line, you need to eat more, and your body is trying to tell you that.

    never eat below your BMR.

    personally, i like the TDEE-20% model of eating, and i don't add in my exercise calories. so if your TDEE is 2000, you eat 1600 calories.

    of course, please remember these numbers are estimations. a few extra or less calories here and there is no big deal.

    your body works more on a weekly basis rather than a day-to-day. so if on monday you go over your calories by 200, and then tuesday you stay under by a hundred and then another hundred under on wednesday, well, you broke even.

    Your deficit is built into that 1200 (btw.. change your goal from 2lbs to 0.5lb a week) and deducting more calories from your net further increases the deficit - which can be counterproductive.

    No. At least not unless your purpose is to begin a cycle of yoyo dieting and overall weight gain.
    MFP or the other methods recommended already calculate in a deficit. Eating too little will cause all kinds of problems. Getting to hungry or learning to ignore signals, like hunger, from your body will cause other problems.
    If you purpose is to be fit and stay that way, do not give your body too little fuel. You need that energy to exercise. Yes, if you want to lose weight, you need to eat less than your body uses (a deficit), but a reasonable deficit.
    Compare it to money... if you have extra money in the bank, you can spend a bit more than you earn for the holidays, but if you keep doing it or spend way more, you'll get in trouble.
    If you used MFP or the various "roadmaps" here, they already calculated a reasonable deficit to meet your goals. Eating too little makes it hard to meet your nutritional needs, your energy needs and to find a sustainable balance that you can maintain long-term.

    Another reason it does not defeat the purpose is exactly why you started this post... not eating enough causes hunger, binges, etc.

  • my main issue is that I am obsessed with weight. I am 5'10 and weigh 156. Those last 6 pounds are driving me nuts! So i'm trying to focus more on body fat percentage.... and im currently at 20%

    Yes, I do both cardio and streinght training as well
