1 or 2 lb per week loss in settings?

Hi I was just wondering if most of you set up your settings with one pound loss per week or 1.5 or 2? I'm tempted to do the 1 pound a week because I find it very difficult to stay under the calories for a 2 lb loss per week. Also, if you exercise, can you eat those calories and still lose?

Set it for 1 lb per week, you will probably lose more than 1 lb even at that setting

I've been struggling with the same goal. Right now I'm set for 1/2 lb per week but have been considering 2 lbs per week to kick start things. I'm very close to where I want to switch to maintenance and have been struggling with those last few lbs.

Are you eating enough? Chances are, if you're doing what MFP is telling you, you're not eating enough to begin with. Check out this post by helloitsdan: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12

I figured out my BMR and TDEE and put my own goals in for calories

I have mine set at 2 per week, but as I lose, I'll probably let that slowly drift towards 1 pound so that I don't have to reduce my calorie count for a while.

As far as exercise calories, you can certainly eat those back. Many folks do exactly that and record regular weight loss, so that should be no problem for you if you want to take that route.

Yup, what Christy said. And, yes, you can eat your exercise calories back. Not eating them back will create a larger deficit, which will theoretically help you lose weight faster, but it can also result in your being extremely hungry and unhappy.

  • I set mine for 1 lbs. a week... you can definitely eat back the calories you burned off through exercise.
