Hi everyone I've been using MFP for the last month, but this is my first post so I thought I had better say Hi!
My name is Tracie, I'm a 38 year old Australian and I've struggled with my weight all my life - as has my father and brother. I've been down the whole crash dieting road in my younger days, did the whole yo-yo deal with getting down to a reasonable weight only to gain it all back plus more.
5 years ago my husband and I stopped smoking, and since then the weight has just piled on even more until, by the end of last year, I was weighing in at 89 kg (196 pounds) - not nice when you're a 5' tall shorty!!
Our new years resolution was to lose weight, and do it properly - so early in January we welcomed "Teddy" the Treadmill into our home, and I discovered MFP on the 19th of January. I've never been into calorie counting before, but I just love MFP - the ability to plan meals, the huge database of foods and exercise calories, it's just making it so easy.
So, now my meals are planned several days ahead, I know how many calories I can eat, I'm learning so much regarding the nutritional value in foods, and - for the first time ever - I'm combining sensible eating with regular exercise, spending around 45 minutes - 1 hour with "Teddy" every day.
I'm thrilled to report that in the last month, thanks to this website helping me and keeping me accountable, I've lost 5kg (11 pounds).
My goal is to get down to 60 kg (132 pounds) - if I can get below that, bonus, but that's the lightest I've ever been and I felt pretty darn good at that weight
I've used all the excuses - "I'll do it tomorrow", "it's so hard to lose weight as you get older", "my metabolism slowed down when I stopped smoking", "my weight problem is genetic". No more! It's time to take charge and take accountability, and do something about it
You lot are a bunch of incredibly inspirational people - and reading the success stories forum in particular is brilliant and gives me loads of inspiration to keep at it. I look forward to supporting you all in your journey's
