Joining MFP

I believe joining MFP is for real weight loss (or gain) people. People who really want change. I don't want to be another obese American. I want to be healthy, fit, Do you know how much I would love to be able to run??? I don't know if anyone else understands what I'm saying but if so post up. Oh I was also wondering, is anyone else pretty large and feels as though they can't run or even jog (too scared to try)?

I HATE running but I have to when officiating sports. Funny thing is I do not mind running during those activities.0

So for you it isn't embarrassment just don't enjoy it. Is it weird I don't even think I could run...0 -
I hate running. It hurts so bad because I am carrying so much extra weight. I understand completely
And I feel like i look like an idiot...0 -
I just recently started running after 50 lbs down, but it is still difficult! I still am not sure I am totally ready physically to start running/jogging0

You should look into Couch to 5K - I have not tried it but lots of people here have and they all rave about how it got them running : ) good luck - you can do it, you just have to start slow.0 -
Why run jog ,why not just walk at a.quicker pace to start off at .that's what I do now0

I felt like I was too big too run. Felt that my fat was jiggling everywhere and that I looked like a duck...lol But I started slow and Now I can almost run a mile without stopping....and my butt is cute.0

I totally agree with you!! I've lost 56 lbs using this tool along with others.....BTW I have never ever been a runner but I am now!!0

You can do it! Do couch to 5k and don't worry about what others think or how you look while running! Screw them After running for a while, I found that it was such a de-stresser that I wasn't looking around or worried about who was around.0

Also I did use the Couch to 5K (C25K) program and it's a really awesome way to push yourself0

The best part is because I love sports and officiating I do not even think about how I look. Try to remember that thishow you feel about yourself...to hell with what other people think...Good luck!0 -

congratulations on joining and taking the first step. as for running if you love the idea of it try couch to 5k. you'll never know IF you can run or IF you really DO love it unless you try it. you took the first step in achieving your goal of not being another obese American so what's stopping you in taking your first step to running.
i was always worried about what other people thought especially when it came to running. i belonged to a gym for years and walked on the treadmill. i'm very competitive and would get SO ANNOYED that the person next to me was doing better than because because they were running on the treadmill and i was walking. one day when the gym was pretty empty (all the skinnies were gone) it was me and 1 other person (a guy who ALWAYS ran on the treadmill - a crazy runner i called Clydesdale). i decided to go for it and sped up the treadmill just enough that i was doing a very very light jog (this guy would have been walking at the speed i was going) and you know what - he turned to me and said YOU'VE GOT THIS GIRL! and while i only lasted 30 seconds it was enough to push me to continue.
in june i'm running a half.

I used to feel the same way. Walking up a hill was torture for me. Now after 60 something pounds lighter, I RUN uphill! lol0
