excerise bikes

Are they worth it? Do they give you a good work out?

Looking at getting something for while the weathers bad, would love a treadmill but lacking the space.

I have a stationary recumbent bike and I LOVE it! Definately a great alternative when I can't get out to run.

I have a spinning bike at home that I use a lot. I create specific spinning workout playlists on my ipod and have various playlists for different length workouts and it works really well for me. I much prefer spinning at home with music I love than attend a spinning class in a gym. I never really could get on board with traditional stationary bikes, but some love them. I did have my eye on a cool, very high tech stationary bike, but it was out of our price range and then the company that made them went out of business.

Is a fold up treadmill too big as well?

Do you have a road bike? If so just get a trainer and hook it up to that. Trainers don't take up that much space and it'll condition you for when you take the bike out in the spring. It would be the same as a regular stationary bike only it takes up less space and it's practical.

i am considering trading in my 4 year old well used treadmill for a bike to save some space and also prep to buy a road bike. I would rather walk outside (if 35+ degrees) because the treadmill is pretty boring (have done the 'save my TV shows to watch on the TM' routine for 4 years). Would like to try a bike.

also, does biking burn more calories? this confuses me because of the sitting aspect. I know it does work a different set of leg muscles than walking.
