Filling afternoon snack

What are some low-calorie filling afternoon snacks that you all eat? I get so hungry this time of day and need something to hold me over til supper but would rather not waste calories on something that is not filling. Thanks!

One great snack is celery and peanut butter. I use Simply Jiff, because it has no added sugar. If you're not into celery, try an apple instead. I think it makes a satisfying snack along with a cup of Earl Gray tea.

What do you consider low cal?

PB and an apple would be my first thought, but that's ~300 cals, which may or may not be considered low cal.

    Carrots and hummus

    Apple and peanut butter

Apple and babybel cheese (or string cheese)

Try to find something that has some volume (apples and carrots) and combine it with something that has fat and protein (cheese, pb, hummus) for the most filling snack.

Oh roasted chickpeas are the business!

There is a pre packaged brand here called chicnuts that are nice but it's easy enough to make your own

Open up a tin of chickpeas
Spread out on a baking tray
Pat dry with a paper towel
Spray with a little oil of your choice (I've used olive and coconut. Olive worked better)
Sprinkle with any seasoning you like. I use a dash of salt, then plenty of garlic powder and chilli
Chuck in a preheated 215c (425 f) oven for around 30-40 mins, stirring occasionally
    Voila! A yummy, crunchy snack

cottage cheese (it's a natural casein protein that take longer to digest i.e. keeping you full) and chop into pieces for the cottage cheese -1/2 an apple with cinnamon. (the cinnamon stabalizes your blood sugar)

i have that every afternoon and it holds me over until I get home for dinner every night.

It's not exactly filling, but I like to peel and eat an orange in the afternoon. The act of peeling it and picking all the white bits off takess so long that it makes for a more satisfying snacking experience somehow...draws it out for me. For me 80% of the reason I want to snack in the afternoon is boredom at work, so the fact that an orange takes a little longer to eat is a bonus for me.

I like popcorn with a drizzle of olive oil and some italian seasoning. I find the McCormick italian grinder spice delicious.

i like to mash a banana, mix it with 1 tb of peanut butter and then dip apples in it. Its not that low calorie but its filling. I love chobani fruit on the bottom greek yogurt (also very filling). Air popped popcorn is also tasty (i use a smidgen of spray butter and then put a little sweetener/cinnamon mixture on it.

My absolute favorite snack is the orville reddenbacker (SP?) kettle corn popcorn. It's only 100 calories for a huge bag and it is super filling! I usually can't even finish the whole bag! I also somtimes eat a clementine (California cuties for 40 calories) with the popcorn because the combo is really good!

+1 on the roasted chickpeas. I usually empty out a premade seasoning kit (Moroccan, Mexican, etc) and dump it on with some macadamia nut oil.
    Also, edamame.
  • The most filling for me are Carrots (16 oz bag = 192 Calories), Grapes (8 oz = 104 Calories) and Kellogs Cracker Chips (27 Chips = 110 Calories). I love them and can munch on them over a longer period of time and get full. Hope this helps! Good Luck!
