Have just bought a DVD which uses hand weights.. What weight would you recommend a newbie should start with?

Thanks

    Depends on the specific exercise.

For squats or deadlifts, an empty 45lb barbell is a good starting point. Which should be easily managed unless someone has a physical limitation.

If it's just a cardio video where you hold weights, then idk. Not a lot.
