Don't Compare Your life to others.

I just read a forum post about a woman wanting to "Sugar Detox" and, with my sugar issues and the large amount I have consumed in the past week, I thought I would read through. Now, I know what I personally have to do to get myself back on track, away from the sugar but, I was curious. Some people just really dont get other people and can be quite harsh about it.

FOR ME, it isnt THAT easy to just STOP eating the sugary stuff!! For Christmas, I bake a batch of a couple different kinds of cookies and a couple breads/cakes...some of these are made for Christmas Day itself, some are made for others "goodie baskets" that they look forward to, and some are just for around the house. So, when things are IN the house, sometimes you see them and/or KNOW they are there so, you just grab!

The easiest thing for me to do is to just NOT have it in the house...if it isnt there, I wont eat it. The next best thing is to keep it in the cabinet or somewhere I dont go into much. BUT, if it is in the house, sometimes the stomach and cravings overcome the brain and you just grab. AND, when you are USED TO HAVING IT around this time of year, no matter how long you have been going through this process of getting healthy, it is seriously a HABIT to make and eat it!

NOW, you are going to tell me not to make the stuff...you are going to tell me make less...you are going to tell me to change up the recipes to make them a little healthier. IN TIME, I WILL change the recipes but, it is HABIT and TRADITION to bake at this time of the year...I have family that looks forward to it and, with being tight in the FUNDS department, it is cheaper to give them a basket of something I KNOW they want instead of a store bought something they dont want or need. PLUS, it is bonding time with the little ones AND this is the time I remember LEARNING how to bake and get into the kitchen more. AND, with being a FullTime Working Mom, any bonding time I get with them is welcomed!

SO, anyway, to just tell someone, "JUST DONT EAT IT!" doesnt usually work for everyone. If I stay busy, stay away from the stuff, then ok, i can. But, if I see it, sometimes I cant overcome the desire for it. When I am at a party and it is a one time deal, it is actually not too bad and I can stay away from the dessert table after 1 trip and I am ok. BUT, when you are around it, it is hard for some of us. Call it WillPower or whatever but DONT call it the NON-DESIRE to want to be healthy! DONT ANYONE tell me I dont want to be HEALTHY and FIT and THINNER and FEEL BETTER then I have ever been in my life!

YES, when someone is ready, they are ready and will do what it takes and I am! I get up every morning before work, around 4:15/4:30 to get my workout in and I am up usually around 6 or 6:30 on the weekends to get moving before the girls. But, EVERYONE has vices, weaknesses, feelings that overcome them for WHATEVER reason that overtake us and cause us to do things and/or eat things we KNOW we shouldnt. Let me ask someone who drinks and KNOWS they shouldnt, do you still drink? That isnt saying your an Alcoholic but, you still like to drink when going out. That isnt saying you dont want to be Healthy or you arent healthy, but, you still go ahead and drink.

Just remember, when someone asks for your OPINION on something, dont get rude and ASSUME you know what THEY can do. Just remember, "Don't Compare Your life to others. You have No Idea what their Journey is about!!"

ETA - I will not argue about this with anyone...about what we should or shouldnt do or whatever...this is my OPINION and I am going to leave it at that.

I couldnt agre more with you maam
  • I agree. If everyone was able to simply not eat something because they know it's bad for them, then there would be no need for this website.

One trick you could try for your baked goods (cookies work well, I don't know about cakes though) is to keep them in the freezer until you're ready to "serve" them. This will not only keep them fresh longer, but in the time it takes your cookie to thaw, you may be able to talk yourself out of eating your treat.
