My random workouts - a bike ride here, a run there, an hour of basketball etc, weren't producing any significant improvements, so I decided that now is a good time to stop improvising and follow a structured plan.
After some research, I picked the endurance planet 10 week to 10K run plan, which is: 'designed for *any* runner who wants to get faster in the 10K, or even run their first 10K. Over 10 weeks, running 4 times per week, you progress from a strength, base and endurance foundation running plan into speedwork, hills and more specific 10K prep'.
Well, I've run 5K, I might as well give the 10K a try. I'm now into Week 2 of the plan and haven't had any problems yet. It gets much harder as the weeks go by, but if it gets too tough I can always repeat weeks. I just hope that I will stick to the plan all the way.

It's killing me not to do more. Normally I'd be hiking several miles a few times a week. But, I'm having a negative reaction from a recent cortisone injection. So, I had to stop hiking temporarily. It's good at least that I didn't set my goal too high for this month. *sigh*

Totally agree with you Dinos. There's nothing like a good plan to help us improve! I also found that "sticking to the plan" is the hardest part. I chose a new one this week.... let's hope I'll also be able to stick to it!
Janet is my hero! She's been sticking to her plan from the start!
