More water = more peeing!

Just wanted to express how much it sucks working at a desk job where I only get 3 breaks throughout the day and trying to drink 8 cups of water without peeing my pants! lol

It sucks because I want to get all the water throughout the day but I have to use the bathroom like crazy and I don't want to take a ton of personal breaks!

Yeah, but are you sure peeing 'breaks' actually count toward that? It only takes a few minutes. Besides, not letting someone use the bathroom doesn't sound like a very nice working environment.

You work for Nazis? Dont understand restroom breaks outside middle school plaze halp
  • I know exactly what you're going through. I work in a call center where we are timed for how long we spend away from our desks. What I did was tell my boss I was treating a medical condition and needed to drink a ton of water. They were really understanding. Due to my body transformation plan I have to drink 1-2 gallons a day and I pee like every hour.

This. There is NO WAY they would dare try to bust you for going pee. Just keep the potty breaks quick, and don't give them a reason to look at you cross-eyed.

If they try to tell you you can't, threaten to take it to HR. They legally cannot refuse you trips to the bathroom, no matter how many you may need.

How about awkward "I have to go to the bathroom" moments... like when you're having dinner with an ambassador and you get up to go 4 times. or when you're interviewing someone for a job and you're like squirming.

I still drink the H2O but hate the bathroom effect.

Just pee. Let them fire you. Collect unemployment, find a lawyer, sue for wrongful termination. Slam dunk case.

 The good thing is that you get exercise out of it when you go to the bathroom every 15min!!! I stretch at the same time!

That's the craziest thing I've ever heard. I know jobs are hard to come by these days but I don't think I could work some where if they wanted to control my bathroom habits.
Do they expect you to be productive while you're sitting there doing the pee pee dance?

when i was starting to drink more water, it was probably a trip to the bathroom at least every half hour. then my body finally started using the water instead of just flushing it through. i still go more often than i did when i hardly drank anything, but it's at least under control

Too bad you're not a dude. You could just pee in a bottle. :) Seriously though, i'm relatively certain it's against OSHA regulations to deny someone a restroom break. I had a boss try to tell me I couldn't go once. (worked for a landscaping company- we were at a client's home and it was either use their bathroom or leave to go to the bathroom. ) Boss didn't want me to do either. I looked at her like she was insane and said "I'll be back, I'm going to the bathroom." WTF was she gonna do? That sort of behavior is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Same here...and I take longer than normal cause I go downstairs everytime I have to pee-ok, almost everytime. If I wait til I can't hold it anymore then I'll go to the one on this level cause it's closer

Exactly! I work in a call center also. I'm definitely not worried about getting fired for using personal breaks for the bathroom but I do believe it counts against my stats, so I try to keep it to a minimum. Of course, if I gotta go, I gotta go, and if it ever comes up with my boss I'll be totally open and honest about why. I guess I'm just kind of a perfectionist when it comes to not taking too many unscheduled breaks.

I pee 1,000 times a day, it feels like. I swear as soon as I drink one 8 ounce cup, I am running to the restroom. I have a desk job too and I highly doubt they'd say something about you needing to pee excessively. I don't notice or even care about what the rest of my coworkers are doing when they leave their desks and pay them no mind. The feelings are mutual.

Maybe I'm just paranoid because at my last job my boss WAS a "nazi" about breaks and overtime! lol

If you are having to pee that much, back off on the water. As long as you are adequatly hydrated, there is no quota of water you need to force feed yourself. That is a total myth.

amen! and join a union asap if at all possible :)

Does it have to be consumed whilst you are at work? Couldn't you just drink more when you are off work rather than at work to meet your 8 cup quota?

If you are peeing too often you're probably drinking too much over too short a period of time and your body is just trying to get rid of it because it can't use it.
  • you're always so wise :) i drink it at work because i'm bored really lol and if i wasn't drinking water i'd be eating :-P

I have call center experience on the management side and my advice would be to bring in a doctor's note to HR. They can't touch you with a 10 foot pole if you have a medical excuse to use the bathroom, they will have to adjust your stats if necessary so as not to disadvantage you. It's better to be proactive about it than wait until it negatively impacts your performance metrics.

I like this one. I told my kids if they are in school and have to go to just go if the teacher has an issue they can call me. I think it is ridiculous to deny someone a potty break, unless you want to be the one to clean up the mess.

In a call center environment it's a little different. You can't just ask a customer to hold on because you need to use the restrum.

I'm lucky I can see the toilet door from my desk so it's only ever an issue if I'm on a long phone call but often I'll be too busy to get myself a drink :-(
