Basic weight training

Hi there
I'm a 21 year old female, 5ft 4 and roughly 112lbs.
I go running 2-3 times a week, sometimes do cross training as well, I go to a circuits class (v tough), body conditioning class and body balance class.
My diet is pretty good, mainly consists of wholemeal/wholewheat, grilled meat, veg, fruit and nuts. My occasional treat will be a hot choc.
Anyway, my point is. Although my weight is now ideal, I reaaaally want to make the best of it by toning/conditioning. I'm a bit intimidated by the free weights section of the gym but I know it will benefit me greatly. I was wondering whether anyone could offer me any good beginner exercises. I'm looking for all round toning and conditioning.

From what I gather from your post, you are interested in building some muscle and firming things up, maybe some visible definition. A 3 or 4 day bodypart split may be a good choice for you as you can work in around the classes and other training you are doing. Check out http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/four_day_training_split.htm for more information. Incorporate compound lifts and track your progress.0
