Stevia???

I am having no issue with the water drinking amounts. I grew up on water, tea and milk. Never had a soda and so forth. But everynow and then I love Limeaid. I make it from the juice of 7 limes, some stevia and water. I feel that craving coming. Can someone tell me the effects of Stevia when trying to lose weight? I am very sensitive to change and carbs (good or bad). I swear I can look a brown rice and gain 3 pounds lol.

    Dr. Oz discussed artificial sweeteners on his show a few days ago. Based on that show and what I've read about sucralose, I switched to stevia. :happy: Here's the link to his article...

    Just log the calories, which in this case are near zero.

    I have a good friend who has some health issues and Stevia is the only sweetener her physician recommends. She purchases hers from GNC.

    I was following the Amino Diet a couple of months ago, and they suggest using the SweetLeaf stevia as it doesn't have any type of sugar alcohols. The kind you buy in the store supposedly has other ingredients which pretty much affect your body like real sugar does.

    I've used Splenda for a while and it breaks my heart that it isn't as good for me as I thought. :sad: And I'm not wild about the taste of stevia...just takes a little getting used to.

    Love pure stevia. It has near-zero cals.

    Be careful of commercial preparations like Truvia if you're sensitive to carbs. It's made with a sugar-alcohol, erithrytol (sp?).

    I eat Stevia straight from the garden as well as use the natural stevia that I buy from the health food store.

    Stevia takes some getting used to with the weird after taste...but it sure beats artificial sweeteners!

    I have between 5-6 packets of stevia a day. I've been fine so far.

    I am puzzled by the stevia craze. I tried it a few times and it tasted as bad as Nutrasweet to me. I haven't heard anything about it being unhealthy, though, except when mixed with other things.

    I like brown sugar, raw honey, or real maple syrup in small quantities. I saw the Dr. Oz special as well and he mentioned molasses as being pretty good for you. A lot of people have starting using agave, I've never had that. I don't use much sweetener, so one teaspoon of brown sugar or honey a day, either in oatmeal, a smoothie, or tea, whatever, isn't a big deal to me and it tastes great. I just count the calories (not that many).

    Same here! Love throwing the fresh stevia leaves with some fresh mint into a coffee cup and having a nice hot calorie free sweet drink sometimes.

    I have use it since June 1, 2012 and have lost 66 pounds since then. It helps and is better for you than artificial sugars. I found out about it from Beyond Diet.com by Isabel De Los Rios. It is really sweet and too much taste bitter. I like and use it. FYI: Isabel is a nutritionist and here is her web site: IsabelDeLosRios@beyonddiet.com.

    The FDA “No Questions” letter states that Rebiana contains residues of ethanol and methanol. Rebiana is commonly confused with Rebaudioside-A (Reb-A). Reb-A is one of the 11 glycoside compounds naturally within the stevia leaf.

    Truvia is Coke's new sweetener, PureVia is Pepsi's. And "natural flavors?
    We all know what that is.
    I'll stick with real sugar in very small doses.

    I've been using it for a long time (about 15 years) with no adverse reaction. But like everything, I'm sure some people are sensitive to it.

    Stevia is natural. Simply because of that I use it. I would love to have the actual herb to use, but I have a black thumb killing everything I touch. :)

    Ok you may think I'm a total ***** - wtf, but my friend told me once (who;s a nurse) not to ever have sweetner cos of cancer causing agents - so i don't! go natural and limit it!

    Not sure about the above poster but I dried mine in the sun for about 8 hours then ground it in a spice/coffee grinder. You can use vodka or water to make a liquid from it but I've not done it yet.
