Maybe I'm making this too complicated!

I wasn't too worried about my health until I got fed up with the weight gain & in june decidied to "take control" and live a healthier life style. So with the help of MFP & a few friends I got off to a great start. weight was coming off & I signed up for my first 5k in oct. However since then my health has been a downward spiral. My arthritus acted up so I cut out nightshade veggies & corn. had a bout of pleursey(sp) and then strep dr said no exercise. Got better & started loading up on fruits & fresh veggies. Started C25K, Then dr. said sugar was pre diabetic, got a book- made changes, exercised more, liver not doing whatever, due to meds, got a book, just got home from the hospital after having a small heart attack, got more books.... At this point I don't know what to eat or how to exercise! Trying real hard but seem to be going backwards... ANY ADVICE WILL BE APPRICATED!

Your body seems to be complicating this.

You can lose weight without running, or hard-core workouts. You really need to drop that weight: you've got a lot of problems that I'm sure aren't helped by an extra 80-100 pounds.

Just clean up your food first. Stop with the sugar first of all. It causes inflammation, weight gain, insulin problems, etc. Stick with your fresh vegetables, lean meat, some healthy fat like avocado or olive oil, coconut oil, or raw nuts. Add some lowfat dairy if it is allowed. Cut back on grains and fruit. Shoot for two servings of grains and maximum two of fruit a day.

Exercise can be anything your doctor approves you to do. It doesn't have to be C25K. At your age and with your physical problems, you may need to ease into the exercise. Walking works just fine if you do it regularly.

I just looked at your food diary, and you make good choices already. Just be patient, you're on the right track.

Ask you doctor to refer you to a nutritionist that has been made away of all your issues. Also talk to him about what levels and types of exercise are appropriate for you. It might just be walking for now.

Check to see if your insurance will cover a nutritionist since you have had a heart attack.
    Good luck!

I third the nutritionist. I know my health insurance covers a couple of visits with one each year, regardless of health issues, so you should check if yours does, too. Explaining all of your health issues to a nutritionist should enable him or her to help you customize a dietary approach to help you.

I certainly don't think that your healthier way of eating is causing your problems, or complicating them, and actually have to wonder if you hadn't already started eating and exercising how much worse they might be. It sounds to me like you've just had a bad stretch (I seem to get them, too!) I also know quite a few people who were diabetic or pre-diabetic before losing a lot of weight and now no longer are. I also have a friend who has had multiple heart attacks who dropped 40 pounds last year and started walking regularly and made his doctor very happy. Dropping the excess weight can only make things easier for you.

Thanks everybody! When I think about it - I really over do it with the fruit but it was my go to food to curb cravings. My goal for the last couple of years is to ride my bike from arkansas to Ocean City, Md. in the summer of 2013. I did alot of cycling & hiked when the weather was warmer.. I'm determined to lose this excess weight the healthy way!

Ask your doc about exercise. I have a slew of health issues and I'm oked for walking, pilates, and moderate strength training. But at first I was only allowed to walk, so make sure it's ok before you try to do more.

I guess the frustration comes in part that I had a complete physical in march & everything was fine. Told dr. my workout plan & she said go for it.
