Gradual weight loss or all at once ?

So I've realized something odd about my body ... Whenever I start a new diet/ exercise regime , I just shed a few pounds of water weight. Then after that, my weight stays exactly the same no matter how much I exercise and watch what I eat.. When I lost 20 pounds before (not on this site), the same exact thing happened and I shed like 5 pound after two months of my change. So basically my weight is stable but when I do lose weight it is like 5 pounds in a week following the same diet/exercise plan... It just all sheds off. Does this happen do you all too? Or is weight loss gradual for you all?

This is common with any dramatic diets - huge changes at first, then a sudden plateau of weight and also low energy.

You'll find here that people are very focused on leading a consistently active life and finding a sensible deficit for your body from your maintenance calories. For me, if I don't move out of bed all day, my body will burn around 1300-1400 calories. If I work (music teacher) and lift free weights, I will be able to eat around 2100-2200 calories.

I'd start by finding your maintenance, then take it down 400 calories per day. Don't try to rush the weight loss if you want it to last more than a week.

    Good luck!

Mine's been more gradual though I dropped pounds slightly faster in the beginning. I'm averaging now about 4 pounds a month, so a pound a week generally. But definitely not all at once.

I've been pretty steady with 1/2-1lb a week, but I've seen others posts in the forums and from friends where they have this happen to them. They don't lose for a couple weeks or only lb and then the "whoosh" happens and they loose 5 or 6 lbs in a week. I don't think it's that uncommon.
