I just moved from an awesome weather in Miami to the midwest. It has been very hard to adjust and the cold is not really inviting for exercising.
I know it is within us! but its just damn hard!

You might want to get over it. Snow running is really fun once you get past the first few days of hacking up a lung after running. You will never get fit if you wait for the weather to invite you to do so.0

You could join a gym and workout indoors, do videos at home, buy a treadmill, or get cold weather gear.0

Well, I will give you 2 COMPLETELY opposite scenarios and my troubles and my solutions
Cold. I lived in MI for 10 years. It gets COLD here. I mean it is very cold for me. In light snow, I would just go outside with a hoodie on and not a problem. My landlord kept the place nice and salted so unless its snowing heavily, I would go outside and after a few minutes I would raise my body temp up by working out. In bad weathers, I would keep jump ropes at home, walk up and down the stairs in my apartment or just do calisthenics along with stationary bike (obviously, you don't NEED a bike).
Opposite to that, I was born, raised and now again live in Saudi Arabia. Just to give you an idea, our winter here is the summer of most US states. It is HOT here. HOOOOOTTTT!!!! Dress light, run outside. Walk. There are all kinds of shades. Still too much sun for your untanned beauty? Workout outside at night. Problem solved.
In the end, we only make excuses for these little things. When theres a need, theres a way. Create the want to workout. Create the NEED to workout and I promise you, you will workout!

Snowshoing is a good form of exercising. Get some shoe traction contraptions for your shoes, and go hiking... lift weights in your abode. Do P90X, INSANITY or some other form of exercise on top of it... Wool and synthetics. Cotton is the death fabric.0

I live in the midwest too (NE Ohio) and I don't exercise outside. I used to, and that was a big part of why I failed at previous attempts with weightloss. It just makes exercise 100X harder for me. I would suggest getting an exercise DVD (I swear by Leslie Sansone's 5 Mile Fat Burner DVD) and/or getting a gym membership.0

Tell yourself you need the vitamin D and light exposure in general to stave off Seasonal Affective Disorder.0

Waterproof running shoes, an extra layer or two and off you go. I went running in -4*C yesterday, with mitts, long sleeve shirt, sweatpants and a fuzzy hoodie, and it was so comfortable! Way better than the dead of summer, getting overheated and dying of thirst after the first mile. I'm determined to run anytime it's warmer than -10*C.0

Okay, as a Floridian this is my honest take,
(1) WTF is wrong with you? Seriously. Why did you leave Miami to move to the Midwest? I mean who does that?
(2) Assuming you have a legitimate reason for abandoning our great state (no jobs left in Miami, fleeing the scene of a crime), give yourself time to adjust to the awful weather. Other people somehow manage to do it (I tried for years but gave up and came home).
(3) Why would you go outside in the Midwest in the winter? You do realize its snows there, right? Besides, I thought they all migrated to Florida in the winter.
(4) Buy a treadmill or a jump rope or something.
(5) Better yet, move back to Miami.0 -
Cold weather pro-tips:
-cold-weather gear is expensive but worth it
- waterproof sneakers are the bomb
- get some yak-trax or turn an old pair of sneakers in to screw shoes for ice
- vaseline your nose and any other exposed skin that might get chapped
- gloves are a MUST, and a loosely wrapped scarf around your neck/lower face will make the air much easier on your lungs
- knee-high socks are great even if you're already wearing running tights for keeping snow out.
- chet a cheap pair of stretch gloves and cut a hole in one finger to control your phone/music
- avoid cotton. I do synthetics b/c I'm allergic to wool, but I hear good things about the wool gear.
- If you're cold, move faster.0
