Why can't I believe in the results

I started to work out and track my calories again, my settings are for one pound per week. So now I have lost 3 pounds in 22 days and I still feel like this is not real ya know?I know it's not magic but I guess I just feel like it's a coincidence and I am afraid of going back like before...I guess I just need to know I really can do this. That it can be different this time.

Ok, so empirical data isn't enough to prove to you that you ARE doing it?

    Ya sounds a little crazy...thanks!
  • I think this is an issue relatively common for people who have yoyo-ed several times. I'm about 11 lbs down and I'm still having a hard time believing it's the blubber that's coming off. There's a pathological fear in there that it may be 11 lbs of water or something, and it'll all balloon back one morning haha. I don't have advice for how to deal with it, but sometimes it's good to know other people have similar problems :)

    Thanks I sgree :)
  • I feel the same. I've lost 40 pounds from July to December 7 and it almost seems like it was too easy. So far maintenance has been painless as well. Seems like magic. But it is exercise and eating right!

I am pushing one year on MFP, I still see the same 370lb guy in the mirror, I know he is not there anymore, but I still see him. document your loss in pictures. A friend of mine said once that the easy part is getting the body healthy physically the tough part is fixing our minds. I agree. Good luck.

When I was around 200 pounds it seems forever for the weight to melt....try to get out of the decades....200's, 90's etc...it is consistancy over time that is it...
  • You can do it. You just have to stick to it and record everything you eat. If you are not exercising start with walking. The weight will come off just stick to it.

It's ok. Take some measurements and (if you can handle it) pictures, too. Then you'll have even more information. 3 pounds in 22 days sounds like a perfect amount.

Good luck with your goals! Sounds like you're on the right track to achieving them.

I do the same, no matter how much I lose I still see the same person in the mirror.

I hear ya so much on that. When will I finally get it right? That is all that goes through my head. I lost 24 pounds and I couldn't feel the difference. I could see it in pictures, my clothes were bigger on me and when I laid down my tummy felt like it was sticking out less(could feel my hip bones more) but I still felt like the same person. Now I have gained 10 of it back. Stress eating from school as well as fear that I'll gain it all back or won't get to my goal has really messed me up. Very emotional and mental. But I lost it once, I WILL do it again. It's hard for us to feel the difference when we are stuck in the same body everyday and look at ourselves in the mirror everyday as well. It's not like we can switch with someone thin or overweight for a week to feel the difference. I find that constantly looking for results has made it harder to feel good about my accomplishment.

I know what you mean! When I lost my love handles, I couldn't believe I did that with regular exercise (as I always ate right). Congratulations, keep up the good work!!

I agree completely. When I see my loss, it's insane to me!! I've tried for so long, and it's FINALLY happening

It took the first 15 pounds to really make a believer out of me, lol. Until then, I was able to convince myself somehow that it was 'just water weight,' or that the scale was being wonky. Even with a loss of inches right along with it. Just keep on keeping on and track your results with the scale as well as the measuring tape and pictures and any other way you can think of. :flowerforyou:
  • For me, I didn't start to really feel it until I crossed the 10 pound mark. It seemed like a legitimate milestone of success, but to get to 10, I needed to hit 3 pounds off first. So know you're on your way. I'm about 53 pounds down with 22 to go. Of late, I've been happier with less scale oriented indicators, things like swimming in XL shirts and back to a 34 inch waist on my pants. Donating my big clothes helped a lot, because it made me commit to not needing them again. Needing new belts, because all the ones I posses were useless was HUGE!!!

But to get to the 53 pound mark that I'm at now, I needed to lose the first 3 pounds that you have just done to whatever your goal may be. So congratulations, you are doing awesome already. Just keep it going and somewhere along the way, if you're anything like me, you'll change from dreading the weight coming back to knowing you'll be able to keep active and eat well for the rest of your life.

One last thing on this long-*kitten* posts. One of my favorite people here was thinking the spin class she took slowed her running down too much. She's 55% down from 300 pounds and we joked about what that post meant. She was bummed about running speed, before she started, she couldn't have jogged or done a spin class like she can now. Keep at it, as you continue success, doubt will ebb away.
