Resolution vs. goal setting

So, it is that time of year again when everyone is contemplating their New Years Resolution which got me to thinking...I never make resolutions because I can't keep them (really, who can?) so this year I decided instead of a resolution I am going to make a New Years Goal. A resolution is just setting yourself up for failure. "This year I resolve to eat healthy, join a gym, work out, lose weight...." fill in the blank but after a few days you slip, you eat that thing you resolved NOT to eat. You missed going to the gym. You pigged out one day and the scale went up. FAIL! In one or two days you convince yourself "I broke my resolution...oh to hell with it.." and life goes on.
BUT with a GOAL, you have the entire year to meet that goal. One or two days or even weeks of slacking off and you still have the rest of the year to meet that goal.
Make your goal a little difficult, but yet attainable. For me, I set a goal of 15 miles a week, either walking or jogging, doesn't matter just do the 15 miles. Some weeks will be 10 miles, some will be 20 miles...just average 15 a week.
