Hello everyone. I am looking for help. I need to consume an extra 300 calories a day while breastfeeding. I will only be doing for another 2 months. I need to loose weight ASAP. I have gaind back some pregnancy weight that I lost :( After tomorrow there will no more sweets in my house. I am going to start doing zumba on the wii, wii fit and the Insanity workout. I totally HATE the way I look and feel right now. I have no child care for my son, so I can't go to the gym. The weather is 30 degrees outside. I really need help with the food part. That's my down fall. Once I stop breastfeeding it will be easier. I need to know how to get through the next 2 months with loosing weight..Thank you...

    Firstly, congrats on your baby!

Secondly, check out this group: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/656-post-partum-pack

There are a lot of good women in there who know exactly what you're going through and can offer a lot of help.

    Good luck!

The reason you have to consume extra calories is that your body uses that fuel to create milk. You aren't just adding random, unused calories to your diet. There is no reason for you to have difficulty eating appropriately to lose weight while breastfeeding - in fact, it will actually get a LOT more difficult to eat the right number of calories when you stop because you will have to cut your intake.

Exercise should be pretty easy too - try to do it when the baby naps or see if you can put it in a swing or something near you.

    Good luck.

The thinnest I've ever been (93lbs) was when I was breastfeeding.
It really kicked in after my son was 6 months old, then the weight just fell off.
Breastfeed because it's good for your baby, and for YOU!

Hi. I have three kids and breastfed each one for about a year. In my experience, the idea of losing weight while breastfeeding was a bit of fiction and I walked for hours every day! I would say on the one hand that since you don't want to undernourish your baby, I think you need to surrender yourself a little to the experience but as you say, once you stop breastfeeding, then increase your activity. If you're depriving yourself of food now, you'll only feel worse and lack the energy to enjoy the experience. Maybe even include your child in your activity by doing robust walking. But most of all, enjoy this time with your child. Don't stress.

Why stopping after two more months? How old is your baby? As far as the workouts, if you are physically ready to do so, you can find the 30 day shred on youtube for free, or if you are not ready for that put the baby in a snuggly or the swing and do a Leslie Sansone Walk a Way the Pounds which can be found on youtube. It won't tone, but it can help with the weight loss. Typically, for a baby that is exclusively breastfeeding you need about 500 calories extra, and lowering that number can cause a reduction in supply and you to stall on weight loss. For the food, it really helps me to pre-plan my meals. When I "wing it", the calories are always worse as is the nutrition. Take a minute and plan out meals for the week. You will be able to eat healthier and more in line with your calorie allowance. Also, it enables you to prep food the night before as necessary. Sometimes during the day it can get hectic with a little one and knowing that the meal is already ready can be a really blessing. Lastly, give yourself a break. Babies are temporary. Enjoy it. Don't sabatoge yourself by binge eating, but take time to snuggle the little one. The baby nor breastfeeding hinder weight loss, that is up to you. If you have any questions or if I can be of any help feel free to message me or add me as a friend. I am a mommy of 7. The youngest (twin boys) are almost 11 months old and are still nursing. My eldest is 8. I have nursed all of them. I am currently at my wedding weight. It takes effort with each one to lose the weight, but it can be done. I am working on the toning process that still has a way to go, but it is getting there.
  • My son just turned 4 months on the 28th. I was going to stop BFing at 6mo. As you know BFing takes up alot of time, my schedule will be extremely difficult come April. I will be going back to work, my daughters activities will pick up and I will have finals for school. I have PCOS, so I have to pump all day to keep my supply up. Fenugreek only helped so much. The PCOS also makes it harder for me to loose weight. When the weather breaks I will be incorporating the baby into my workout schedule more often. I know for sure that I have been eating an extra 500+ calories per day, because I have gained weight back that was lost after having him. I will check utube out, thanks
